because we are humans and without it we would never change. we all long for things because we have hope that is deep inside us even when we don't know it.

Nothing wrong in longing for things. How does one know if it is meant to be ours or not? If a person is in an abusive relationship and longs for a peaceful relationship, does it imply it is not meant to be? In such a situation, a person can change things and get what he/she longs for. Maybe when some people long for material things, it does not help.... not because those things are not meant to be theirs but circumstances don't permit them to have what they long for.

This happens because of sinful desires, covert or overt. Also because it is the Kali-Yuga running. When the majority of people do not long for things which they do not deserve, it will become Satya Yuga.

It's a way to make the self suffer. It is masochism. Most people won't acknowledge any sense of masochism or sadism that they might have. As a result, resolving the problem becomes impossible.
Wanting something that you can't or won't have is to torture yourself.

Well! That's human instinct, you get attached to the luxury and material things in life, all we do is, WANT more and more, specially those things, that you cannot have, the more you get the more you want and its never enough and one day when you die, you leave behind everything.

What is ours we can leisurely enjoy,so try for others and get double joy.When we long for others ours won't get shorter, it will have more enjoyment.
