"Always on My Mind" is a song originally recorded by Brenda Lee and released on June 12, 1972, with music and lyrics by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson.

It was Elvis Presley who first made "Always on My Mind" famous, reaching number 16 on Billboard magazine's Hot Country Singles chart in early 1973. Brenda Lee's version had stalled at #45 on the country charts in 1972.

The song was also recorded by Willie Nelson. Released in the spring of 1982, the song raced to number one on Billboard magazine's Hot Country Singles chart that May, spending two weeks atop the chart. The song also did very well on Top 40 radio, peaking at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

You guys are idiots. Nelson recorded it twelve years after it was released, even after elvis won a grammy for it.. Most people say it was Brenda Lee, but wikipedia says it was Gwen McCae which i suspect is true but she just didn't get recognition cause shes black

they are both great artists and even though i love the kings music i prefer the Willie Nelson version of this song
Elvis recorded this just after he and Prisilla,s marriage broke up it was written by two other guys not sure of their names you will have to do a search one on lyrics the other the music it was not written by Willie

There was another version played of this song (Rodney Crowell, maybe???) in the mid to late 70s that I heard quite often on a Country Station in New York (WKHK) "Kick FM" that (in My humble opinion) was the best version I EVER heard...Wished I could remember the exact name of the Artist who performed it...Been looking for this version since I got on the internet with no luck at all....In fact...That question is what brought Me here, lol!!....Oh well...Struck out again...

It has to be Willie Nelson (but maybe i'm ignorant) I think he wrote it.Maybe it was Glen Campell.Oh' who knows?

Yeah, it was Willie Nelson. Personally, I prefer the Pet Shop Boys version.
