Let x be the total sales
derive a formula:

1/11x=380
multiply both sides by the multiplicative inverse which is 11
so

[1/11x=380]11
x=4180 the total sales was $4180

To check:

4180 x 1/11 = 380.

I came up with $4180.00

If $380 is only 1/11th of the total then you just multiply 380 times 11.

Joe's total sales for the week were $4,180.

Looks like his friend, Al, down the street is doing much better financially! (:0)
