have done the same thing, is it fair to say they would leave the twins alone while they dined out on the next holiday, only when we ADMIT to our mistakes, because we are only human,THEN AND ONLY THEN CAN WE LEARN FROM THEM,

hi ray@nypd, maddies parents say they did nothing wrong leaving the kids alone,so therefore it would not be wrong to leave their twins alone.

richard, my question is, were they wrong in thinking its ok to leave young children alone in an unlocked apartment, they dont seem to think so, and if they believe its ok, then they would not see any harm in doing it again

Now that is a very well observed statement and question. You are right. The McCann's do NOT accept responsibility re their negligence or guilt or culpability. They each say they don't blame each other and that neither are to blame (yes I know, it's how Gerry put it).
So as you say, if you don't think you did anything wrong you're destined to repeat that behaviour. It's not denial it's face-saving, and probably a monstrous attempt at job saving - not that they'll ever have to work again with £800000

They were wrong to leave a 3 year old with 2 year old twins. Yes, they were only around the corner, but they wern't WITH them. What if one had been ill, or woken up unable to find their parents. That would have been bad enough, but because she was left alone, Madeline was abducted. How the parents can say it's not their fault I don't know. Anyone who leaves their children alone like that should not be a parent. THeir other children should be taken into care.
They should learn from their mistakes, but if they are convinced that they did nothing wrong, they never will.

I think I get what you mean.
Sorry I disagree - I really cannot see ANYONE with half a brain go and leave A THREE YEAR OLD IN CHARGE OF TWO YOUNGER KIDS WHILE THEY GO OUT FOR A MEAL.
You say about 'making a mistake', well sorry, this is pre-meditated NEGLECT and there are laws in this country (as in Portugal) saying that leaving kids alone like that is illegal.
The McCanns also don't seem to be ADMITTING to making a mistake, their blog actally say 'We got the answer we wanted fom the police saying that we were not at fault.'

yes they did wrong,as did all the others that wrote to say they did the same thing, they wont be a next holiday will there, this is one big holiday for them and most of it is paid for by the public, and they think they are above the law just cos they are professional people,if this was some one on low wage or social it would be completely different, and social services would soon be onto them, they should be made to come back to the UK and face social services for neglect

You are of course correct.. if these people are being told time and time again that what they have done is perfectly normal, and other people have said to them that they do the same thing, then YES, om the next holiday they will leave their children alone again... because according to them and their supporters THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG AND THIS IS NORMAL!

Only the McCanns gets away with something like this. I would never even dream of doing something like that, but if I did I would probably been in jail by now and banned from being near children for life. It makes me sick to think how they could have done that in the first place. We are only human but that was a mistake that should have never happened in the first place. You don't just do that to your own flesh and blood. Children are too precious to be neglected.

To be honest, they are so blinkered in believing that they have done nothing wrong, that yes they probably would do it again Im sure. Afterall, like you said, if they believe they have not made a mistake, then it would not stop them from doing it again. In my opinion, they dont deserve to have children.

Two wrongs dont make a right ....... justification by using others is a cowards way ....also do we actually believe that someone actually wrote these letters ?
I am so angry at the term naive .. they are not simpletons and they have found a word that removes them from any blame how clever is that???

Your question (if there is one) is undecipherable. Leaving small children home alone, however, is not naive, it is recklessly negligent. This isn't 1907, and everyone knows about kidnappers, child molesters, etc. Criminal activity aside, a toddler home alone could poke a fork in the electrical outlet, fall into a bathtub, or any number of dangerous things could happen.

No I would guess to say they would not do it again but again nothing has been shown yet that she in fact was even kidnapped. Police are calling it a disappearance so I guess until we find out what really happened that night no questions can be answered rightfully. If she was kidnapped then I would say no they wouldnt do it but then again you just never know with some people.
