I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by!

Oh dear, yes I love them. The work gets done.
It is them approaching too fast for comfort that I dislike.
Or that they suddenly are here. Suddenly it is today we should deliver.

As a matter of fact I have one later today and I'm taking a bit of time out relaxing my brain answering this. Dislike the stress involved when it is needed to cut back on quality and quantity to keep a deadline.

Most things always taker longer than we anticipate,
Even when we take this into account.
And we then hit a wall without skid marks.

I make a living of deadlines as a project manager.
My job is best described as a "Big Mamma" that keep asking if this is enough time and ask for a dates, wrestling commitments out of others. Could we fix a date? When is s/he back? When may I call? What would you suggest? are my most used word at work.

Someone is currently giving me a delivery day for a translation as "the first week in July". I can assure you that this doesn't work in my favour as it is too non specific. I have had to go back and request a specific date. And we agree on that date and I again have to ask "do you have enough time" Some people aren't good at planning.

As I also have a bit of a side show helping people de-cluttering, simplifying and organising their life and belongings. I know all the theory although it doesn't always get applied in our household. (My daughter recently had a lot of her clothes confiscated and relocated from the floor in her room to a locker in the basement having ignored several warnings and exceeded a deadline by 72 hours)

Rule of thumb:
If you need something done do it yourself.

If you need something done ask a busy person.

If you ask someone to do something get them to suggest the deadline, that will ensure more commitment on their part.

If someone else ask you to do something consider dodging the deadline issue.

Payment tend to inspire people to deliver on time(may work on children occasionally).

Even I with an occupation and long experience there are surprises to the point of mumbling under my breath...." gee, the f***up fairy has been around". For instance the time when someone converted inches to centimetres (wasn't me, hehe) and used the conversion 2,50 instead of 2,54. Not a big difference, except if you are manufacturing 850 windows to fit in a building where an inch is 2,54 and they just need to fit them. Missed the deadline by 4 months at significant loss.

all best, have a nice day

Yes, I actually do appreciate deadlines. Deadlines help me to stay organized and on task and I always make better use of my time when I have a deadline. As far as the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by... can't say that I'm with you on that one, that whooshing sound just plain stresses me out!

I DEPEND on deadlines....
Sometimes I'll trick myself by putting a deadline on something just to make sure it gets done on time.
I literally will add something to an already-busy schedule JUST so that I will not have enough free time to get sidetracked.

(This will only make sense to others who cram, too)

I dislike them very much. Funny thing is I really have no one setting deadlines any more and I catch myself making deadlines for me.

I hate deadlines, but I do my best under pressure. So the outcome is good I suppose.
