The company that I've worked for has been purchased by a bigger company. Everyone has gone through a strict background check, credit check and drug screening. I'm in managment and I was told that I passed everything without a blemish. But there are a few managers who's background checks were redflagged or were given a week to leave due to their credit checks. I've had to work approximately 140-plus hours within a two week period off and on for over the past five months due to a lack of co-managers. Working from open til close almost four days in a row. I'm grateful for my position. It could be worse. But I thought when you're working, that you're working to gain good credit. How is this possible?

Thanks for the information. I'll pass it along. Myself? I just brought a house and redid my credit in the process a few months ago. That's why I still have my position.

Generally, at least in the US, employees are "employees at will" unless they have some kind of contract. Employment at will means that you can be fired for almost any reason, or for no reason. The only thing you CAN'T be fired for is your membership in a protected class - these are specifically defined, and include such things as gender, race, religion and verteran status. Your credit rating is NOT a protected class, no matter what the first responder thinks. So yes they can fire you for having a bad credit rating. For that matter, legally they could fire you because they don't like your tie or the color of your eyes - would be pretty stupid to do so, but they can legally.
