Vegeta and Goku both lost their tails before having kids right? Gohan is son to Goku (Saiyan) and Chi Chi (Human) making him half saiyan, half human... and he has a tail.
Howcome Trunks & Goten don't have tails? they're both sons of Vegeta and Goku (Pure saiyans) and Bulma and Chi Chi (Humans).......

It is implied they cut off their tails while they were kids.

Trunks & Goten's tails were cut at birth, because it is very dangerous to let them have it, since they could look at the moon.
