In Portland Oregon, two 14 year old girls were involved in a gross public display of affection. Not just kissing, but deep kissing and heavy petting. So the people on the bus complained, and the driver asked them to stop, they didn’t, so off they went. Now HE’S in trouble for telling them to stop and kicking them! Am I the only one to think this is ludicrous? It’s not a gender/sexual preference thing either, THEY’RE 14! Where are their parents?!?

Obviously the parents were not there. The bus driver was in his rights. He was acting on complaints from other passengers, the girls were given fair warning, they did not comply, giving the bus driver no choice but to kick them off the bus. No dear you are not the only one to think this is ludicrous. Even if it was a boy/girl situation, the bus driver would have been in his rights. The manner you speak of was disrespectful and from the way it sounds was dealt with correctly and fairly. I'm sure if this goes to court the bus driver will win the case. I can't see where the bus driver could be in any trouble unless it was the parents making the complaint towards him. Most likely the parents were not given the full story by the girls. They probably only told the part of being kicked off the bus, and left out the reasons as to why.

If it's a public bus, I don't think it was within the driver's rights to kick them off. Unless they were breaking another rule of the bus (and kissing/making out doesn't count as indecent until breasts or genitals are touched or exposed) they should have been ignored. The girls should have stopped out of respect of the other passenger if they were requested to, it's rude to knowingly make people uncomfortable when what you're doing isn't neccesary. You can't compare this to being at school where PDA's are banned outright. What the girls did was rude, but being rude in a non-threatening way is not reason enough to get thrown off. If they had gotten into a verbal or physical argument with the driver about ceasing their kissing, I could understand this. And why does their age matter? Does sexuality and a want for affection only kick in at 18? It's not a crazy idea to think that teenagers know what making out is and participate in it. I do believe that's part of being a teen.

According to the articles I've read, the driver is in trouble because he didn't follow company policy for removing minors from the bus. The driver was supposed to request assistance before removing the girls. I do agree with you though, that this matter has been blown out of proportion. I think both sides were in the wrong; the girls were obviously making the other passengers feel uncomfortable, but the driver could have handled the situation better.

If the other passengers complained, he was well within his rights to put them off. It's his job to see to it the passengers are not offended, upset or bothered. Their parents should have been notified by the bus dispatcher to come collect them, for safety's sake, and they should be barred from riding the bus again. I think it's ludicrous that the driver should be in trouble--he did what he's required to do.
Greyhound can, and will, drop you off in an Indiana cornfield for smoking onboard, so why couldn't a city bus offload an offensive couple like that?

If this was a heterosexual relationship nothing would have been said. The race card has been thrown out there and now the sexual orientation card is being thrown.

The driver should have followed procedure, but frankly I don't think anyone would know there was a problem in a hetero relationship. The driver would have been dealt with in private and nothing else would have been said about it.

Stupid. He's not at fault. People are uneasy watching PDAs. I got in house suspension because I kissed my GF on the forehead in the hallway of our HS awhile back. Now that's over the top. Probably could have hit her (not that I would ever hit a female) and not got suspended.

no i agree with you. i dont think the bus driver should have kicked them. but he can say stop but then again there are no signs on the bus that say no kissing... right? so it depends who and what is behind it.

Did u say that he KICKED them? If he kicked them, he should be in trouble, but if he kicked them off the bus, I think that is crazy that he is in trouble. That's public indencency. And they are kids! Gross, I probably would've kicked them.

I agree with you....maybe the parents should have been contacted by the police and questioned as to why their conduct isn't being supervised? Ludicrous indeed!
