I think if he had the fire power that Palmer has, he'd have won Super Bowl 39, and nobody would ask this question. He lost it though. He chocked, that has nothing to do with being black. I do think he's better than Palmer though, cuz McNabb made it to a super bowl with a mediocre offense around him and no T.O. in the playoffs. He's a leader, but he gets hurt often and he chocked in the big game, that's why he sometimes underrated.

McNabb has been a well regarded NFL quarterback for years. But he doesn't have a great record in big games and is prone to injury. Until he wins another NFC title or, better yet, a Super Bowl, he can't be considered to be one of the very best.

There are good black quarterbacks, good white quarterbacks, and now some good latino quarterbacks. Most football fans don't really have a racial bias anymore, they just want someone who will stay healthy and win games.
McNabb is a very good quarterback, but when you look around the leagues pretty much every team has a good quarterback. I wouldn't say he is under-rated since most fair people will realize he is talented, but when you compare him to other quarterbacks in the NFL he is merely normal.
It's like driving a porsche and parking next to a lamborghini. Yes, it's still a very nice car but you won't get a lot of praise sitting next to something even bigger.

I watched him play at Syracuse and he was great. When he made the jump to the pros, he was good, even above average.
The talent to just make that level is incredible. I really don't think he had the supporting talent in all areas at the same time to make his career magical. There were always injuries to backs, receivers, linemen, defense that kept the team from firing on all cylinders. Depth is supposed to cover these issues but consistency is crucial when a season can made or broken on just a few plays. And all of this praise from a Giants fan!

I think Mcnabb is a great QB. I've seen how he always seems to find some way to win. I have a friend who is a Redskins fan and he hates it when Mcnabb does 50 yard scrambles against the Skins weak DL.

you nailed it..with the receiver thing..I don't see him as under-rated..he's been a pro bowler..and a victim of Reid's
horrible playoff coaching..
TO..used him and screwed up a very good team..being black has little to do with anything..he is a top QB spoken with Brady and Manning..anyone that would rank Donavan above the top 3-4 qbs in fantasy..is making a bad mistake.
plus he is a Regent at the University I attended..and a good guy

Palmer is a leader who won't put up with stupidity from his teammates. He would have led the bengals to the super bowl that year had he not had his knee taken out from under him by the Steelers. McNabb completely threw away his teams chance at winning a super bowl a couple years ago with his "I was feeling sick" excuse at the end of the game.

You seriously think that he's underrated because of the color of his skin?
He had a great season, then 2 seasons where he couldn't play because of injuries. He hasn't played in a while and that is why people are concerned.
If it is the season after he took the Eagles to the Superbowl, no one would doubt him.

He is definitely a great QB, and he is definitely underrated, but not because he is black. Daunte Culpepper had a great with the Vikings in 2004, and he probably would have won the league MVP if not for Peyton Manning.

I didn't know he was underrated. I thought it was a given that he's one of the premier QB's in the league, and not just for his mobility and scrambling. He's got a great arm and, yes, he's never had a solid receiving corps to throw to.
