I saw something underneath my 8 month old's skin on her arm while I was bathing her. It's very small and looks as if it could be the lead to one of those mechanical pencils. I have a four year old, I asked him if he might of done this. I am 99.5% sure he didn't do it-not his style. The skin is also very slightly raised but not red. Could it be a tick?

No, I don't think she feels it at all. I think she was more annoyed that I was holding her still so I could examine her arm. I'm going to call the Dr. tomorrow. Just wanted some quick info. after office hours.

The 'lead' in pencils is not really lead.
It's graphite, which is a form of Carbon.
After water, carbon is a common ingredient in our bodies.
Ticks are much bigger than what you describe.

No, because there is no lead in pencils. They are made of graphite.

It doesn't sound like a tick; it wouldn't be under the skin. It could be the lead from a pencil in which case it needs to be removed. If it doesn't clear up in a day or two take her to the doctor.

Nope. Pencils now-a-days are made with a mixture of Graphite and Clay The higher the percentage of Graphite the harder the pencil. Take her in and have it looked at by a Doc, just in case. Better safe than sorry...

You're baby is fine with the pencil thing. Imagine how many kids would have suffered if a pencil could cause severe lead poisening?

No, we use graphite in all our pencils but certain art pencils now.

Graphite still leaves a small blue tattoo under the skin. Have one myself from where my brother stabbed me randomly, it's been there about 14 years now.

No worry of lead poisoning if it is a lead point, they don't use lead in pencils anymore. But you should take her in so the Dr. can see what it is, you don't want to leave something embedded in her skin.

Pencils don't have lead in them. I would take her to a doctor to be safe.

No, because modern pencils use a graphite mix instead of lead.
