Actually, he's quite popular, largely because we give him juice as an anti-American. As it turns out, if we criticized him for his dismal record of providing services to his Iranian constituents, instead of all this no nukes crap, we'd be more politically effective over there. There are complicated and deep-rooted reasons why the Iranian people are 100% behind him on the nuclear issue. It does us no good whatsoever to bust Iran's chops over becoming a nuclear power. They will, and we can't stop them. Iran is not some two bit dictatorship like North Korea. It is home to what is probably the oldest civilization on the planet, (with the possible exception of Iraq). We should focus our efforts elsewhere.

No one knows. Speak out against the government in Iran and see what happens to you. My guess is most people are too scared to speak out.

Its hard to say, Im sure he does have his supporters in Iran, but the people I have spoken to from that country all referr to him as the missing link.
