I love this classic song, but I don't get the lyrics. First he says, "People say I'm doing you wrong......don't worry baby 'cause I'm right here at home".... In other words, he's not cheating on her. But in the chorus, he says "I take my lovin' on the run." So that would mean he IS cheating on her..... I don't get it. Can you educate me?

i think it means that he's not one who stays in one place for too long, and that the odds are good he'll up and leave and move on at some point.

This is Steve Miller Band. Ah the paradox. If you want to hear a different spin on this song, listen to kd lang's cover on her cd called, I think, Smoke - all songs about smoking. Her cover is very soulful and her phrasing is different.

I don't know what it means - I just know I like it.

He doesn't know what he's saying. I mean he's a joker, a smoker, a midnight toker. He's a picker, he's a grinner, he's a lover and he's a sinner. He basically has split personality disorder. WOOO WOOO!

I find it's best not to try and make sense of lyrics by bands and guys in bands who have consumed copious amounts of illegal drugs.

If you were to do acid, then listen to his lyrics, it would all make perfect sense. Trust me.

Dude, it's the lyrics of a rock song - they're not SUPPOSED to mean anything!

He doesn't believe he's doing her wrong by getting his satisfaction outside their relationship. Other women must come to him while she is gone.
