France, in the Revolutionary War they helped us out big time fighting England. Especially in the Battle of Yorktown, where the British surrendered in 1781, the French used their navy to block the British retreat while the Continental Army closed in from the land. Spain and the Netherlands also joined the war against England after the Battle of Saratoga in 1777.

I would guess the French given the fact that the American Revolutionaries got the support of the French to fight the British. The French were our ally when we were born and they are still are ally today, even with the events of the past few years.
