Have you ever checked out a Professor, acknowledged that they received bad marks from students, but took their class anyhow? If so, was this experience a bad one or a good one?

Be patient with me--this is my FIRST QUESTION posted, so I'm not sure how this whole rating system works!

There's plenty of websites out there similar to that...take a look around and see how others have rated them (I prefer PickAProf.com). All that you're seeing are how someone else has perceived that professor, not necessarily how you'll react to them. Take their comments with a grain of salt. The best feedback you can possibly get, however, are from other students who have had that professor in the past, if you know any. At least that way you can relate the feedback to what you know about that individual.

If you do happen to go to PickAProf, though (seriously...I loved that site while I was in school), the most beneficial thing to look at is how the grades were distributed from the previous semesters. Whether you see mostly A's and B's, mostly C's and B's and a few A's, or mostly C's and D's can tell you quite a bit of what you'll be looking forward to... coupling that with the reviews you get from the other sites will let you give you a fairly solid perspective.

Yes. I have found that some of the comments on the site are true and others aren't. Sometimes you just have to take the chance and establish your own opinion of the professor. If need be you can always drop the class if you absolutely hate it or can't deal with the professor.

There is an old saying - whoever like something tells one person about it, but whoever hates something complains to ten people.

That's the way 'rate my prof' works. The complaints are from people who got bad marks, screwed around in class, etc. As for the compliments - well, how do you know that the prof or his buddies didnt put those compliments in themselves!!!!

You would do a lot better if you find some friends at school - someone whose opinion you trust - to tell you what they think about the profs.

Yes. Don't necessarily believe everything you read on that site. I have found that most of the negative comments made about my professors were from students who were too lazy to work.

I used it and whatever the comments are, are true. If they say that they are a great teacher, they prob are. If they say they're impatient, they prob are. When I used it, I picked out the best teacher and it was right. I had to use a bad teacher once and they were exactly what they said they would be.
