Tupac, most misunderstood. But the most lyrically brilliant and balanced. Stood for more positive than negative if you listen to what he is really saying. A threat to unjust political and policing systems. Respected and cared for good woman/single mothers raising children and making ends meet.
Got a bum deal as far as being seen negatively because folks weren't listening to the meaning of his words, they just heard the words.

***2 Live Crew caused quite a stir at the time as well. LOL..luke..
****KRS1 was also very vocal about Politics...extremely intelligent.

I am not impressed with these answers either but a young buc is a young buc. Everybody missed the only true answer. Hands down it is Luke from 2 live crew. Do some research, no one else has come close to receiving the amount of media, public, and political bashing and controversy this cat did.

Damn, I am not impressed with these answers. Most of these new artists cant be controversial because someone already done it back in the day, and theres not much of a shock factor anymore. Im going to have to say NWA with the song "F*** the Police" so Easy E, or Ice T with his album "Cop Killer"- I remember people freaked about that one. I thought Too Shorts first few records were pretty controversial, but he wasnt as well known.

The most controversial rapper would be 2PAC. Well how many times was this guy is court. How many lawsuits he faced. Remember he was charged for a rape case, guns charges, When those guns belong to biggie and his junior mafia crew. He got shot 5 times, went to the hospital, and when to court the same day and was found guilty of rape and had to serve 5 years sentence. All in one day. God damn imagine doing five years when you had nothing to do with that girl.

Hard to say on dis one. Lotta real dudes out there. But I'd have to say the most controversial would be Eminem. He's white n from 8 Mile, hard **** right there. But hell, even his lyrics are controversial too, most of songs have a real meanin to em n some of em are pretty hardcore. 2Pac is close though, hell he brought it n always stayed strong n stood up for wat he believed in, not a lotta people do that anymore.

Holla :P

Tupac.
He's the only rapper since Public Enemy that
had the balls to speak out politically.

He also had controversy regarding his
court situations,
getting shot in the head,
going to jail,
his history regarding the Panthers,
east v.west and Biggie
his interviews
his woman, etc
not to mention that He's a legend now.
He's gone, and we still talk about him,
there are still records being released.

I agree with Smooth Jones,, Public Enemy NWA and I would add 2 Live Crew,,,

Public Enemy was the 80's and early 90's version of the Black Panther Party-911 Is a Joke

NWA -Fu(k the Police, government hated them, they were the first to let the world know that the Police are crooked

2 Live Crew was the first to really capitilize on the motto that SEX SELLS,, Banned In Da USA

Ice-T, they say he was one of the first to do C-Walk on a stage,he was one of the first rappers to use the N-word, and ho he was Apolitical, and rapped about things the Gov't hated, and they all hated him for that. He caused a big Stir in the rap game.

N.W.A.

" Fuc* Tha Police "

On August 1st, 1989, the FBI, through their Assistant Director of the Office of Public Affairs Milt Ahlerich, sent a letter of condemnation to N.W.A.’s record label (Priority Records) expressing their angst at the release of this album, or more specifically, the song “---- Tha Police” track 2 on the album. Here is what it said:

“A song recorded by the rap group N.W.A. on their album entitled “Straight Outta Compton” encourages violence against and disrespect for the law enforcement officer and has been brought to my attention. I understand your company recorded and distributed the album, and I am writing to share my thoughts and concerns with you.

Advocating violence and assault is wrong, and we in the law enforcement community take exception to such action. Violent crime, a major problem in our country, reached an unprecedented high in 1988. Seventy-eight law enforcement officers were feloniously slain in the line of duty during 1988, four more than in 1987. Law enforcement officers dedicate their lives to the protection of our citizens, and recordings such as the one from N.W.A. are both discouraging and degrading to these brave, dedicated officers.

Music plays a significant role in society, and I wanted you to be aware of the FBI’s position relative to this song and its message. I believe my views reflect the opinion of the entire law enforcement community.”

Eminem. Like the other dude said he had obstacles to overcome and he did something few rappers do, HE SPOKE HIS MIND. Homosexuality, murder, etc. none of it is off topic for him. Other controversial rappers have been Tupac, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg. I forgot about Nelly, Tip Drill really made a LOT of people mad.
