Spybot-S&D Free.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

AVG Anti-Rootkit gives you the power to find and delete the rootkit and to uncover the threat the rootkit is hiding.

If you've heard the story about 'trojan horse', then it's something that comes attached and disguised in something else.
So you need to get a infected executable in your computer to get trojan horse. You could've downloaded it or received via any other means.

I don't know what you mean specifically with "trojan horse" but you can get spyware and malicious programs by just having your computer connected to the internet without a firewall or anti-spyware.

No, there is also what is known as "Drive By Downloads", your pc is infected just from opening a webpage with embedded hidden trojan virus or viruses.

If you have good antivirus software that protects you from "drive by downloads of trojans", then you are secure, if your antivirus is not all that great then you have a problem.

My antivirus I pay a one time fee for life of $29.00 and I get all updates automatic, and all new versions for life. Plus I am protected from these types of drive by trojan downloads.
