You hate to see cheating rewarded of course.
But, MLB is quite the hypocrite for looking the other way with these guys throughout the 90s (while they put fannies in the seats), even though everyone knew they were juiced.
But it's up to the sportswriters...the same ones who claim that they had no idea these guys were on steroids during their home run chase of 1998.
The HOF has made plenty of mistakes before in terms of inducting players who shouldn't be there (or leaving out guys who should be there). The further we get from the end of these guys' careers, the more important their stats will be in their evaluation. Of course, it could take decades, but they'll probably eventually be in there...
Joe Jackson isn't in the HOF, but he sure has a lot of folks who are sympathetic to him now, because the only thing they see is his line of stats from the World Series... they don't know about his baserunning (he would stay at third on a ground out instead of scoring as he should have) or his fielding (no errors, but the Reds hit 3 triples to left field, where Jackson was playing...how often do you see a triple hit to left field?)...
I wouldn't mind seeing them get shunned, but on the other hand, the HOF has made so many mistakes in the past that the very term "Hall of Famer " has been devalued by having so many guys in there who shouldn't be... what's another mistake or two? And again, the commissioner's office never said a word as long as these guys were producing on the field... it's hypocritical for MLB and the writers to be so indignant about the streroids issue after it had gone on for so long.
No, I wouldn't put them in, but they'll probably eventually be there.
In fact, I'll make a prediction... One thing we need to keep in mind... Big Mac was white, so it's ok if the writers shun him... but Sosa is a black hispanic... and in today's politically correct society, we're going to see shouts of racism (possibly accompanied by riots) if he's not voted in on the first ballot.. so he'll definitely make it before Big Mac does. The baseball writers will cave under the pressure so as not to be seen as racist.
Remember where you heard it first.

Until they can test every professional athlete I suppose the answer would have to be yes. But first they should place Pete Rose in there what he did after he retired has nothing to do with number of hits he got while playing. AS far as steroids it will cast doubts on all future selections into all of the Hall Of Fames. It just makes what Hank and Willie and Frank and Mickey and all the other earlier ball players did that much more great. Same with earlier football players and basketball.

they may have used steroids but they still had amazing acomplishments and at the time steroids were not banned from the game. And plus last time i checked it wasnt the character hall of fame, it was the baseball hall of fame for accomplishments in baseball cheating or not, their accomplishments will just be frowned upon but still recognized. For all you people that dont agree, i am not saying they belong in the hall of fame, just their numbers and just their names belong there but nothing else about them, not when they played not any thing but their home runs. like Pete Rose, it is the same concept, he did something he wasnt supposed to do but that is all in character and who cares, it is about accomplishments that people aceive in the game, not how they do it.

I believe that they both belong in the HOF.
Honestly that whole era has to be considered its own special circumstances because you can't tell who used it or not. Did Greg Maddux use steroids? Probably not, but i'm sure he wasn't tested during that time either.
We will never know unless they come out and say they did. So who are we to judge by appearnce alone? "I can just tell" is not a good enough excuse to deny what they did for the game of baseball, before, during, or after the "juiced" era.

Oh yes they belong in the Hall of Fame. A very special display with the both of them. Perhaps a nice shot of them shooting in the roids, then a fade to their future! It should be used to let our youth know that drugs are not the way to success!!!

Why are steroids bad and why is it illegal in sports?
Steroids are bad and illegal because it can damage the liver and lead to death.
Children idolize sports stars and emulate their idols, ie. Michael Jordan ("want to be like Mike"), Tiger Woods, etc.
Allowing those that use steroids into the grandest stage is essentially allowing our children to emulate their idols.
Therefore, we should NOT allow that type of behavior into our children's hearts and minds nor the Hall.
Insurmountable evidence leads to guilt. For example, murder trial; finger prints, DNA, gun, etc., but no witnesses.
Guilty or not guilty?

Nope, they did not respect the game and the fans who shelled out hard-earned money to support those frauds......Baseball had no rules because baseball had no real commissioner since 1992, when they kicked out Faye Vincent. Bud Selig is an OWNER, not an unbiased commissioner, and under his "watch", the game - with its juiced ball, lockout and steriods/HGH/etc. and without genuine unbiased oversight, has been disrespected by all - players and owners alike.

Well, seeing as how it's never been proven that either of them have broken any MLB rules (other than Sosa's corked bat), yes. It may not feel right that they're in there but there's nothing to be done about it.
