The Pressure from the water line will look for the path of least resistance. If as the first answerer is correct, you do not have a gasket that will be a path of least resistance.

If you do have a gasket, check to see it is in good condition, with no permanent set (compression marks) or cracks.

It might be wise to try a new gasket in any case before proceeding as it would be the cheapest and simplest solution.

Oh Yeah the absolute most common problem with garden hose connections is the gasket seat is not tightened sufficiently, so try tightening it. Obviously do this judiciously, as I expect the sprayer is plastic and you do not want to crack the plastic.

Leaks at the gasket, for whatever reason, will naturally cause the water to flow around the threads and straight back at the user.

If neither of these is at fault the internals of the sprayer may have gotten clogged, thereby restricting flow and exerting pressure where it normally does not build up. Try cleaning it and flushing it. A soak overnight might dissovle left over residue that has hardened in place.

Since I expect the sprayer is plastic, and any crack in the plastic will likely create a leak, checking for cracks is also important. These may only become apparent when pressurized as the plastic expands in response to the pressure. Cracks often form along the seems line from the molding process, where it is often weakest, and therefore be difficult to see.

Unfortunately, the use of the plastic that make the product cheap also makes it more succeptible to breakage.

Ortho Sprayer

Like Sheley says. Go with a plain oscillating sprinkler, sturdy because it's a lawn tool, not a toy, and you can later use it for the garden. At 2, I'd avoid a slip'n'slide: too likely to cause an accident. As for the baby pool, unless it's really easy to empty, I wouldn't put it up, not for a two year old. Unless you are watching CONSTANTLY, too easy to drown in only a little water if she looses her footing. If she's really 'loving the pool', I imagine you mean a public pool? If you're near enough to take her, keep doing that, as you're only there for a 'visit', it's easier to keep an eye on her and not get distracted or try to do 'just one' little thing inside the house. If she likes to play with water, get her a dishpan or a low-sided plastic box and put some water in, and she can play with toys in that. She's little enough that pouring stuff from a cup (or something with little holes to sprinkle the water) is probably thrill enough. If you get a second container and some clean sand, she can have a mini-sandbox and mix the sand and water, as well. In a couple of years when she'll be safer in a her own pool, try putting sandbags or bags of dirt under the pool to level it out.

there is a back-flow preventer in these that is a flat rubber piece inside the white plastic just inside the hose gasket. You must have good pressure to seat that disk before it seals off. My problem is that water is coming in through the pick up tube which renders the thing useless.
