You would have to complete a Bachelors in Accounting at a good University. You can also complete your CPA or Certified Public Accountant Exam. It has 5 parts and you are certified after you pass the exam and complete the required number of audit hours or have experience in accounting.

The salary range is from $55K to $70K to begin with and goes up from there.

Most accounting jobs require at least a bacholers degree in accounting (4 years of college). However, in order to be certified as an public accountant, you must have 150 hours, which is like 5 years of college. Most student opt to go ahead and get their Master's degree if they are pursuing their CPA. A lot of colleges now offer a 5 year accounting program, where you earn your bacholers and masters and are eligiblie to sit for the CPA exam. Salaries vary greatly by region, experience, and skill. You should expect to make $30,000 to $40,000 right out of college, I'd say. With 5 years experience and your CPA, expect anywhere from $60,000 - $100,000. I live in the rural midwest, so my numbers may be low for you "city folk" out there.
