I had a c-section with my first pregnancy when I had twins. Now that I am on my second pregnancy I would like to try to do natural birth since I had a bad experience with the c section the first time around. I am getting advice from family members to go ahead and do a c-section which I am really against at this point. Im basicall asking other parents out there who have had both types procedures, who could shed a little more light into what I am trying to do. Thanks

There is a wonderful website called http://www.ican-online.org/ that has tons of information on VBACs and success rates, how to know if you will be a good candidate, federal law and a woman's right, etc... I highly recommend checking it out.

As I am sure you know, vaginal birth, when possible, is always the best route. It is better for baby and better for mom. Labor is so good for baby and mother. But we are thankful for medical advances when necessary, eh?

Here is wishing you the best in your research and a healthy baby and birth!!!

I had my first child natural and my twins c-sections and this time I would like to try to go natural again. First on all, you heal so much faster with a natural delivery and you don't have all that horrible pain like you do with the c-section incision. You are also able to get up and walk around just minutes after you have the baby when you have a natural delivery. Although your labor will be watched a little more closely if I were you and there are no serious issues with baby, I would try for a VBAC.

I think if it's feasible a natural birth is best since there is a shorter recovery time and surgery is alway invasive. That said, I had 2 c sections and am very glad I did (labor was not much fun!) My first was a c section due to breech presentation. I had no problems beyond a uterine infection I caught early. I tried a VBAC for the 2nd, but after 48 hours of pip-squeaky labor ended up with a 2nd c section due to failure to progress. Whatever you and your doctor decide is the best for you and the baby should be what you do.

One thing I need to clarify before I answer this is... I think that some people are mixing up "natural" birth with "vaginal" birth. A natural birth is a vaginal delivery without the use of any medications.

That being said... if you are a candidate for a VBAC (vaginal birth after c/section), then by all means, try it. Vaginal births take lesser time to heal... a c/section is major surgery. I had two emergency c/sections, the second was a planned VBAC.

As long as your uterine incision is horizontal (bikini cut), then you should be allowed to attempt a VBAC. Keep in mind that the uterine incision is not necessarily the same as your outer incision.

I had a c-section also On my first pregnancy and after that I've had two vaginal deliveries.I have a total of three kids and I honestly suggest you try vaginal ,only unless there is no complications of course.A vaginal delivery is more faster to heal than a c-section of course. But I do suggest you walk alot and also try to know what is it exactly what you want because Doctors will easliy want to do a c-section since you already had one but you can ask for a vaginal. The choice should be up to you and not them,I think

Definitely go for a vaginal....No pain after delivery and no staples to worry about. But Please again if there is no complications.I dont know if you have any risks or history so Im just suggesting you are healthy.

I had a vaginal birth with my daughter and a c section with my son. For me the vaginal birth was much easier! I was up and moving around 2hours after i delivered and would have been up sooner if I hadn't had an epidural.
With my C section i was on bed rest for 36hours after wards due to complications with the spinal block. Some women prefer the c section but if i ever have another baby i am going to fight for another vaginal birth.
A c section is major surgery and you have to take it easy for so long its hard to have one and then deal with everything afterwards. Ive had a lot of help from my family in taking care of my 2 year old while recovering.
Im 2 weeks out from my c section and im starting to feel fairly normal again.
Congrats!

I've had 2 natural births (at a freestanding birth center with licensed midwives) but never had a c-section. But your first difficulty will be finding a doctor who will "allow" you to go natural after a c-section (called a VBAC- vaginal birth after c-section). Because of malpractice and doctors being so fearful of being sued, many have stopped doing VBACs and are telling women "one a c-section, always a c-section." So be ready to do A LOT of research to find a provider who will support you. It's possible, but you may have to go with midwives. Good luck!! I think it's GREAT that you want to go natural. I wouldn't have done it any other way. It was fabulous!

Dear Troublesome,
I cannot give you an answer from personal experience, since my babies all wanted to come too early...but I have had friends who have had c-sections and then done natural childbirth. It is ultimately a decision you and your doctor have to make. It is definitely possible to have natural childbirth after a c-section without any complications, but much depends on your history. Do not depend so much on family and friends, but on good solid medical advice from a midwife or doctor who has nothing to lose or gain by the choice you make. Good luck.

There is a small risk involved with a VBAC with the uterus rupturing during labor. It's a very small risk, but you need to ask your OB about it. Also, they may have you sign a waiver in case it happens.
I have had 2 c/s's and one was with twins. I would have another c/s if I ever have any more kids. I had easy c/s's though. I think if the baby is in the right position, a VBAC is very possible. Women do it all the time. Good luck with your new little one!

Have you talked to your doctor about this? You can't really go for a natural birth if you haven't had a lot of time to heal from the first C-Section (years). I would talk to your doctor.
A natural birth is the best way to go.
