Yes, they do. If you have a set from an old CD player or walkman, save yourself some money and use them. I actually prefer to use regular headphones, as the earbuds keep falling out of my ears. Also: if you happen to live in an area where ipod-snatching is popular, using headphones disguises the fact that you have an ipod, thus preventing you from falling victim to a snatching - those white earbuds are a dead giveaway.

Yes. It's actually preferable to buy a more expensive name brand for them.
I prefer to use Koss Titanium series.
Usually best priced for the sound quality.
I buy a new pair every two years (since I listen to music all the time, everywhere I go, and admittedly I'm rough on them). I spend between 40 and 50 bucks and can't really tell the difference between them and the super exspensive varieties.

yes, most headphones should work just check if they are 3.5mm size ones. any other dont work.
but if your ipod headphones dont work, and you bought your ipod within one year, you can go to an apple store and they will give you a new pair
