0.0070 g CO2 = 7 x 10^-3 g CO2; 1000 g H20 = 1 x 10^3 g water

the grams CO2 / grams H20 = 7x10^-6

1 ppm is 1 x 10 ^-6 so 7 x 10 ^-6 is 7 ppm

to get the answer you have to take the number of grams of solute (in this case 0.0070 grams of CO2) divide it by the number of grams of the solution (in this case 1000 grams of H2O) and then multiply that by 1000000. You get the answer to be 7 parts per million. Wasn't this a question from the chemistry regents? By the way I may be completely wrong about this but this is what i did on the regents.

Formula: ppm= (mass of solute/ mass of solvent) x 10^6

ppm= (0.0070g/1000g) x 10^6
= 7 ppm
