hey! i'm 13 too.

for pretty much all this year it's felt like my life was coming to an end (not a pretty one) too so i totally know what you mean.

the meaning of life is to live for God the best way you can, come to know Him and you will be eternally alive and happy. it's as simple as that, if you havn't been saved then you should really try getting to know Him, i promise it will solve your drama, or give a reason behind it and help you survive, at least.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Life can have a lot of drama when you are becoming a woman and your hormones are going wild. You should talk to your friends and share your concerns.
Life has no meaning apart from the making the most out of living--you are the one who puts meaning into your life. Achieving peace and contentment are two things in life that will help you find happiness.
Your life is just beginning, Erica, not ending. We all have times when darkness sets in, but darkness is only the absence of light--the light which fills up our lives if we just simply stop blocking it.

Erica - it is inevitable that you would come to this question as you have been pressured by parents, familly, friends, school, media, etc., to 'do' something with this idea of 'life'. If you look closely at what a living thing does ( a cat or bug or what ever) you will notice that they really aren't concerned with any 'why do I live' or 'how do I live' questions. They are spontaneously experiencing the stimulation from their senses at all times and could care less about any 'meaning'.

You are a living organism in every way like them but are cursed with the pressure to use 'thought and knowledge' to separate yourself from the world.

Everything I was taught about living in this society was to make sure that I kept society moving forward. Life has nothing to do with that. It has to do with living. The pressure to 'become' something other than you are by getting help from something outside of you is the cause of your confusion.

Reject the pressure and live.

give yourself 10 more years then ask again. but for now, the meaning is different for everyone on a personal level, but overall it is to some how change the world-whether it be one or two people or a million. who knows, maybe you will find a cure for HIV/AIDS. we never know the true answer to that question until we are at our end. as for the drama, we all have it. what is important is what you take away from it, and who you will be because of it. try an experiment tho-tell your parents when something new DOES happen. sleep on it-sometimes alot! i am very emotionally charged and make alot of mistakes and am confused most of my time, but usually i have a better idea of what is important after i think things thru later on, after i have calmed down some.

what ever you make it 2 be. The whole of the human race can still not find an answer to fit every life. It is one of the many questions that baffels people everywhere. BTW take one problem at a time and eventual things just work out. Oh and calm down, because life is always complicated. Also talking with your parents with SOME things help they arn't as ignorant with social problems as we thought . Hope that's some help. BTW I'm13 too.

It may be hard for you to believe right now, but wiser people than me have said

"time heals all wound."

Just hanging in there. It may seem like a endless waiting but it will be better eventually (or at least not as bad).

As for the meaning of life: All the wise people have asked that question. And you've just joined their ranks. It is your search - don't let anybody short circuit your search (as hard as it may seem right now).

You're here to take actions which mean you stay here. So's everyone and as a result of this life ends up staying here too. That's it.
