It has highly selective import tariffs in order to protect certain industries e.g.steel.

There is no real free press or news media, which either is, or is allowed to be, truly critical of the State. The role of the media is to 'manufacture consent' as Chomsky has ably demonstrated, and to propagate the propaganda and ideology that will facilitate the reproduction of the political status quo.

The aim of all its foreign policy is to develop and foster new trading markets and 'spheres of influence'. This masquerades as 'promoting democracy'.This is analagous to the role of Russia in Eastern Europe during the post war period, until the recent breakup of the Soviet 'Union'.

Work and freedom are inextricably bound together. The US concept of 'freedom' is realised through work and is contingent on it.

These are all classic hallmarks of a Communist State. So, was Abraham Lincoln really the first Marxist-Leninist and a founding father of the biggest communist state on the planet?

A communist country, no. In way to deep? Yes.

Communist believe that there is a war brewing between the rich and the poor, while this may or may not be true, the US does an excellent job at keeping the rich rich and the poor poor.

As for the media, why do you think it 'facilitates the reproduction of the political status quo'? Personally I think it goes back to who watches and pays for our news. Every news hour/station/paper contains some form of advertising. To meet big budget production, you must keep these backers happy, they are happy when ratings are up and ratings are up when you report things that don't go to far to the left or right.

The promoting democray bit is tired as well. We are no longer in the days of imperialism. This country, or our elected officials, need to understand that we as a human race should already be passed imposing our views on cultures that we feel are 'lesser' than us.

I know I've gone off on a tangent but I hope I've at least given some food for thought if not somehow answering your question. Happy first day of summer!

Come on now, you're trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Try the square hole and see if it fits.

1. Why should they not protect our industries? Unions ensure qualitfied workers and quality products. The workers get paid well and have health insurance, retirement, etc. Why should they allow countries who have almost no regulatory standards (think child slavery) to undersell quality industry. This isn't communism. This is protecting American buisiness.
2. The press is not funded by the gov. They rely on advertisers who are attracted by ratings. If a show isn't watched nobody buys their air time. Radical or contradictory opinions are not outlawed or even discouraged (think communism, right?). You have freedom of speech, but that doesn't mean the rest of the country has to listen.
3. I do wish we were more of an isolationist nation but I see why we are not. We joined WW1 after the Germans sunk an American passenger ship. Not because we were power hungry. Japan declaired war over an oil dispute. Hitler was a threat to everybody. After WW2 communism was sweeping across Asia, Europe, Africa, Central and South America. Communists across the world helped topple weak governments and immediately occupy the vacuum they instigated. We found the best way to protect ourselves was to encourage the same prosperity that we enjoyed. Capitolism is what brought down the Berlin wall. Capitolism is what sustained us as the Soviets stood in bread lines. Agree or disagree, but it's not communism.
4. Work and freedom are bound together. If you want to eat you better get a job. That's not a communist concept, thats life. What isn't freedom is when government takes your money that you worked hard for and gives it to someone who hasn't worked. A socialist concept introduced in the new deal and championed by the democrats. Before the government pulled out it's titty, family and churches helped those who truly needed assistance. By the way, try being "free" anywhere in the world without being of some value (working).
5. Abe was not a founding father.

Well, as you are all allowed to believe what you want (i don't see statues of bush, or lenin for that matter, in the corner of every home), and most of you believe a load of old rubbish, i would say you have a free country. You are allowed to get away with being racist, homophobic, and extremist christians; more than anywhere else, and so i would say it's the other extreme: you can do what you want, even if it is wrong, and no-one will stop you.

Communist? you don't know how good you've got it. You all have your own wealth, you don't have to give it to the state, and you are all far richer than people in Africa. Get over it, you don't have a communist state.

Also, it wouldn't be the biggest one on the planet. Contrary to popular belief amoung americans (no, yours isn't the biggest country - shock!) China is bigger than you, and has more people.

1. You must be joking!

2. Believe me, if America where actually Communist, Noam Chomsky would be celebrating....

3. Examples of Communist systems include Maoist China, Soviet Russia, Tito's Yugoslavia, Castro's Cuba, Ho Chi Minh's Vietnam, Chauchescu's Romania, to name just a few.

4. How about studying those examples and then see if any of those systems remind you of the system in the United States.

5. I fear for America's future.

Are you kidding me.

Steel is a matter of national security, which said tariffs have failed due to china buying up all of the biggest companies

Do you actually watch the news, the major networks along with the AP wire are strongly influenced against bush and the war. e.g. Dan Rather.

The us has the greatest purchasing power of any nation on earth, what is wrong with choosing to do business with nations who respect human rights as we do.

FREEDOM is inextricably bound with RESPONSIBILITY.

You have no fuc king clue what a communist state is. I'm Cuban, I do.

Communism in it's original form was NOT meant to be an oppressive system. If you read the Communist Manifesto you will find that it was NOT meant to subdue the people, oppress the poor, and make killers out of the government. Instead, Communism as written by Karl Marx, was meant to evenly distribute wealth among the masses, including the government. However, Lenin, Stalin, and Kruschev redefined it, twisted it, and distorted it to their benefit and turned them into ruthless evil dictators as has all other communist countries ever since.

Go to the library and check out a book on the "Cold War".

-People like you are idiots...Luckily natural selection will take care of your type for us and as your already on the endangered species list, we may not have to wait long.

- Your ignorance will be your ultimate downfall. Much like the USSR. Or should I say the "former" Soviet Union.
God Bless America
