Mid September Vegas is awesome. The temperatures during the day are in the 80's and it gets down to 60's in the evening around 10 pm.
Perfect time to go and not a lot of tourists either so things are not so crazy. Check out Red Rock Canyon for excellent hiking and Hoover Dam as well.
I lived there 15 years.

Hotter than hell. My company has meetings in Las Vegas in late August every year, and it's consistently so far over 100 degrees that you don't even care anymore. I spend the entire time with a headache from dehydration (no matter how much water I drink). The good thing is, most Las Vegas activities are indoors, so the weather doesn't matter that much unless you're traveling between venues.
