I'm 21 and I do not drive. I have a lot of anxiety so I worry about the littlest things for a long time. I have a fear of driving like I think about every little aspect of it and how I could get hurt or harm someone else. I went to see a psychiatrist about it and told him how I want to drive because it would mean more independence. Then he was talking about me moving out of my house and into an apartment because I do not want to dorm at school (he was getting ahead of himself). I feel like I need medicine to help me. I shy away from social situations and when I am in them with people I don't know my face turns red. All he focused on was me going to take the test to get my license and getting a driving instructor. I'm like my parents tell me to take the test all the time and I am paying him $20.00 to tell me that. How can him just saying do this and do that help me? Should he have discussed the problem with me further?

I'm sorry my fault I meant psychologist it wasn't someone who could give me medicine. It's someone you can talk to and they help you with your problems.

I'm a clinical social worker and I think you need to a psychiatrist for medication and not therapy. Even so, this guy doesn't sound like the person for you to see. Can you change to someone else for medication and then see a psychologist or licensed therapist ...like a licensed professional counselor or licensed social worker ...for counseling? Is there Families First or other private nonprofit counseling center in your area that you could go to? Do you need to talk to someone at your insurance company to get a referral or approval to see a particular professional? Are there any programs around that specialize in anxiety disorders? Do you know anyone seeing a therapist or psychiatrist that they really like...even if you didn't see that particular one...you could call their therapist about a recommendation...it's always good to get recommendations from other people and other professionals if you can. Good luck.

I'm sorry, but I have a hard time figuring out specifically what you are trying to say, although I get the gist of it. Have you seen a PSYCHIATRIST, as opposed to a psychologist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe you medication so that you are less anxious. You sound hyper or manic to me. But once you settle down your nerves, so to speak, you might be able to put your thoughts in order and start working on these things in a more calm way.
