Nobody else had as big an influence off the field over the past 40 years than Miller. And do you think the Veterans' Committee will elect him? After all, it's the players on whom he's had the most positive influence.

Miller was on the 2003 and 2007 Veterans Committee non-player ballots, and (obviously) was not elected, though he did finish in the top two or three each time. He'll next be eligible in 2011.

If the current incarnation of the VC maintains, I think his election becomes inevitable, as every player since he was hired has benefited from his efforts, and as we move forward, those who hit the free agency jackpot enter the electorate (while, to a small degree, resentful olde-tymers, players or otherwise, die off) -- I think he gets the plaque in time. I just hope he's still with us, as I'd love to hear his induction speech.

2003 -- 44.3%
2007 -- 63.0%, second-highest return

Hec wasn't a player, manager, umpire, or owner. Although I'm surprised someone from the veterans committee hasn't tried to nominate him.

He doesn't fit the normal category for Hall of Fame.
