Well, I heard it's drama-y and everything, not as action-based as Shonen Jump. It wouldn't make me gay, and I know I can, just would it be strange? Maybe just don't let anyone see me read it. Also, any posts saying crap like "UR GAY LAWLZ!!!!!!!11!!111" will be instantly flagged. Thanks

Shonen Jump is for male and female, that's all good and well; But "shonen" can mean "boy", "few years" and, as the magazine states, "pure of heart". "Shojo" means "girl", "little girl", or, literally, "lesser". Plus Shonen manga is directed at all genders. Shojo is directed more at the female crowd apparently. There are others that I read, like "Gokusen" for example. Just saying.

P.S. Again.
I was just kidding about not letting anyone see me read it. I don't really give a rats tail about what they think.

I have read Ranma 1/2 before, and I thought it was funny and rather original. Vampire Knight is awesome, no matter what. How could ANYTHING with vampires not be awesome? And true, Osamu Tezuka did it, and he is the greatest manga artist of all time.

Are you afraid your friends will make fun of you because you read it? Do not pay too much attention to it, as long as you find it entertaining and somewhat amusing, read it.

PS: what is the point of making this question if you don't care people know you read it. Really, there are people out there who can be reading worst (not that reading shojo beat is a bad thing) things

Why should you feel ashamed? Sailor Moon was originally intended to be a show for perverts when it was being conceived more than a decade ago. But the producers decided to make it General patronage & allowed everyone to enjoy it. Over time, Sailor Moon ended up converting a lot of fans into being Moonies, including adults. What's wrong with reading shojo? I love shojo. I beleive that in Japan it's reversed. Although Shonen is for boys, a lot of girls are attracted to shonen manga & anime because of the handsome characters, sometimes TOO handsome to be a man. Shojo are for girls but because it's got beautiful girls, not to mention sexy girls, a lot of guys are interested in it. Have you read CLAMP's works like X/1999? It's published by Viz Comics. Its main character is Kamui Shiro, he's a 15 year old boy who has the fate of the world in his hands. If you think it's a love story, then think again. There's plenty of violence here. A lot of blood & gore that are not for the weak heart. It really defined a whole new meaning to shojo.
What about Ranma 1/2? Isn't the creator a woman, Rumiko Takahashi, & that her main character, Ranma Saotome, turns into a girl whenever he's splashed with cold water? Most of the time he's a she & although he despises being a girl, he puts it into good use by practicing anything martial arts & takes advantage of being a girl (wear beautiful clothes, eat ice cream cheerily, be dramatic, be romantic even). One story he enjoyed being a girl so much that when he suddenly bumps his head, girl ranma forgets he's a guy & becomes a full blown woman. Of course she didn't liked it when Akane turned her back into a guy. Nor did Akane found it funny that boy Ranma loves to check out lingerie at the department store, much to Akane's embarassment.

There's no harm in reading shojo. Go ahead. Remember, the GOD OF MANGA, Osamu Tezuka, founded shojo & he was a guy!

I don't think it's weird at all. Sure, it's target audience is chicks, but I have met (online anyway) quite a few guys that read it. Some of the stories are cute & romantic, but that's not all it has to offer. It has great drama (Nana- the coolest rock manga ever), some comedy (Absolute Boyfriend- hilarious no matter what your gender), some action (Vampire Knight- blood anyone?) and life lessons (Baby & Me- about 12 year old BOY who has to help raise his brother).

Well, enough of my pitch. Suffice it to say, I don't see anything weird about it & I think those who do may be just a little to hung up on appearances.

Read it if your want. Personally, I'm a girl and I perfer Shonen Jump to Shojo Beat (I still read it though). It all depends on what genre you like. Read it if you want. But just be prepared that there are people out there that are sterotypical. Go figure.

Oh, and I read one of the other posts and I'd just like to add that the creator of Full Metal Alchemist is a woman. I love that show.

Honest Opinion Here!!
Well yeah it's kind of odd to see a guy reading Shojo Beat. If I was a guy I wouldn't let my friends know I read it. But, Where I live, You are Considered a loser/freak/geek if you read manga, regardless, so yeah. But, if you enjoy reading it, Read Away Dude-just do it in private.
