i gave birth on tues to a 4lb 9oz 33 weeker. he is in perfect health and breathing on his own. i was wondering if anyone else has a similar story, and could let me know how long thier bub was in the NICU? I know it is all different, but would be nice to hear some answers from people in similar situations.

Yes, it all depends on how critical the baby is. My son was born @ 26 weeks, 1 pound, 5 ounces, 13". He was in NICU for 86 days. They say they get released around the expected due date.
Or another example: my son was originally due July 20...He came home July 6th, but with oxygen & apnea machine. (was on those till November).
CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW BABY!!!

I can't help with the similar story. My best friend had a baby that was 1#4oz...24 1/2 weeker. They let her go home when she was only like 4 1/2 pounds. Once she was able to suck on her own and was no longer having apnea episodes there was no reason to keep her in the hospital. Our little miracle is perfectly healthy 2 1/2 years later so I am sure yours will be fine.

my nephew was a 31 weeker, he spent 5 weeks in the nicu, went home on oxygen for a few weeks, and after that had a normal infancy and childhood. he's 5 now, a little small for his age, but thats it. Your baby will likely spend less time in the nicu, they like them to get to 5 lbs and be able to nurse without tiring out/getting blue. good lcuk!

My grandbaby was a preemie and she was in perfect health as well. She was in NICU for 4 weeks. They initially told her it could be up to 8 wks so if they tell you 8 wks just know that it could be much sooner.

Usually preemies are held in the NICU anywhere from a week to three weeks.
