It depends on which version you are using. Check the cover pages to see if a copyright applies to the one you're looking at.
Note for Pax-C:
Constantine was not the author of The Bible. More like a compiler and editor among many compilers and editors. There were a multitude of authors who contributed to the stuff in it and there are a lot of chapters (books) that didn't make it in the BIG BOOK, yet are part of it.

It is was, since copyrights run out 70 years after the author's death, it would long since have gone into public domain. The Emperor Constantine - author of the Bible died quite a while ago. Pax - C

The Bible per se is not copyrighted, the translations are. Still, as long as it is only a verse or two, and you footnote the version, up should be OK.

i haven't a clue!!! i am guessing there will be some form of rights ties with it but when you write your "to be published work" just say that you are quoting from the bible so they know you are acknowledging there rights.

Bible has no trademark rights, and is not owned by any sort of entity, because any judge would hold that it belongs to a large group of people, a religious group, no matter who prints it. This is hard to explain to your local bookseller when you want a free copy.

Some versions are copyrighted, I think. It would be better to site which version you are using, to be sure.
