I know Illinois passed a law within the past year or two that you can't be under the age of 18 and get a tattoo, even with parental consent (I went in with my dad). Having moved near a place in Iowa with tattoo places nearby, I'm curious what Iowa Law is. I turn 18 on August 25th, so I CAN wait, just wondering...

@ First Poster:

Thanks, Ames is where I'd be going and I have heard of Lasting Impressions. I no longer live with my parents, I live with my fiance (long story) as of mid-January, so I could have my dad call or something, but not sure otherwise. I'll have to ask the place I guess since it's 3 hours away from where my dad is.

I used to live in Iowa. The tattoo shop I went to (Lasting Impressions in Ames) had signs on the door saying not under 18 and you couldn't be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. However, the sign did say that if you were under 18 you needed parental consent. I don't know if that meant a note or to have the parent with you.

If you can get there, it's a wonderful place. Very courteous, helpful, patient, hygienic, and they send you home with instructions on how to take care of whatever you get. They did my piercings and friends' tats and we've never had problems. (Sorry to hear you're in Iowa now, I grew up there and moved to CA. Hee.)
