Well, I've removed my spotted green puffer.....He's taken a BIG chunk from 3 of my gouramis' bottom fins and eaten half of my flame gourami's tail!

Will they grow back? Or are they forever scarred?

Karen, Mermaiden is right... Melafix works great! You just have to take out your carbon while dosing. So remove your carbon and place it in a plastic baggie for a couple of days. Look at Big Al's Online for better prices on Melafix than what you would find at say, Petco. They will grow back, but maybe not to the full extent that they were before. And scarring may be noticeable.

If the edges of the fin where it is torn are white or fuzzy looking, it has fin rot. In which case, you need to get something called Melafix and follow the instructions on the bottle. If the spine looking things are damaged then it might not grow back, however, I had a goldfish with a dorsal fin missing a piece and it grew back. It grew back white and slightly deformed but it's there. Even if it doesn't, so long as it heals fine and doesn't rot the fish will be back to normal so long as it isn't missing a large piece. Lethargy could be because of pain, try the Melafix. It should clear up a number of problems that could happen in a few days. Good luck with your fish! I hope it gets better soon.

Assuming it's only fin that missing and not "meat" of the fish behind the fin, yeas they will grow back. If the puffer managed to damage the flesh of the gouramis, then it probably won't. Things such as melafix will not help the fin grow back, but in combination with very clean water may reduce the chances of a fungus infection at the damaged area.

They'll grow back, of course. But they won't swim well until they do. You can help speed it up by adding something that treats it. A good treatment is Stress Coat from API. Only costs about six dollars.

You can aid regrowth in fish fins using Melafix. They will probably be clear.
