Ok I can understand the steroid thing. But no, I don't think it will affect him. I think he's worthy right now. The best switch hitter of all time next to Micky. I think he will in his first year of eligibility.

I think he's on pace to be a borderline player. The New York bias will probably hurt him, because if Chipper Jones spent most of his career as a Yankee, then he'd have a much better chance than he does right now. He's not exactly a beloved figure in New York, so that will hurt him. I fear that by the time his career ends, his numbers will be devalued because the steroid era has ruined the home run numbers for everyone. I think Chipper needs another championship ring, and not only that, he needs a spectacular playoff performance to get there. Something like that will give Chipper some more notoriety, because he's very quiet right now. Chipper will be known, however, as a great team player, being willing to change positions and restructure his contract in order to provide the team with a better chance to win, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be very important to the Hall voters to play the game the right way.

It will depend on how long he plays and at what level. If he can get to 500 homers, then he will be a definite HOFer. If he falls off the face of earth however, it becomes a little tougher to make that call. I can't see that happening with Chipper though. He's too good a ball player. I think by the time he's done he'll have hit some milestones that will ensure his future enshrinement.

I think he gets in easly as well. Great player with great character. I love stats and stats are big for the HoF but so is having a great character. Played for the Braves through the good years and the bad years. Never asked to be traded to a contender. Stayed and helped his Braves become a contender again. Moved to the outfield for the greater good of the team only to move back and still be an above average thirdbaseman. Probably one of the top 5-10 switch hitters in the history of the game.

He is a borderline guy. HE has had some great seasons and was one of the best players for a long time on a great Atlanta team. He had one MVP but should have had three or four! He still needs to inflate some of those stats.

They say Chipper Jones is a player like Pete Rose. He runs bats and hitters simply to Pete Rose. Two hard playing baseball players.

Keep in mind he plays in Atlanta with a great hitter's park. He needs at least three more good seasons before he's HOF worthy. He should also learn how to field again.

If he retired now, I don't believe he goes in. It used to be that 400 or 500 home runs was an auto entry, but now it's really not that hard to do.
