If it has to be a real serious novel,or a classic novel then I can't help you. Otherwise I would advise What A Girl Wants by Kristin Billerbeck. It is a girly book, and it grabs your attention. Good Luck with the paper.

Since this is for class, if you need a really deep book that you can analyze for a paper, read 1984 by George Orwell (if you have some patience, that is).
I would also recommend Memoirs of a Geisha by William Golden (characters are great and good for analysis, but the book is easy to get through)

I loved Hilary and Jackie written by Hilary du pre her sister, and her brother, Piers du Pre, (this was nothing like the movie which was terrible) she was the famous cello player who came down with MS in her early twenty's. She came from the Jersey channels of the coast of England, and had one of the sweetest lives that I've ever heard, people don't live like that anymore. She was a child prodigy who heard a cello on the radio when she was five years old and said to her mother, " I want to make that sound, so her mother a music talent in her own right, got her her cello at five and from the very beginning she showed that she was a child prodigy. A very warm hearted story with a tragic ending. You'll grow to love her family, so sweet and old fashioned.

i read all of the clique series and the books are quick reads. it only took me half of a day to finish one. invasion of the boy snachers is my favorite but you should start with the first one so it makes sense. they held my attention and i plan on getting the eighth one on the first day. also if you like long, heartfelt novels, read sisterhood of the traveling pants. i sware that they are the best books on the face of the planet earth. these have good details so it would be easy to get a great grade if you apply the book to your paper well.

You would like something light and humorous, I bet.
How about Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court"? It is a satire on the medieval times and pokes fun at superstition and religion. In the end of the book he has a war with the army of the Church, in which he mows them down with machine guns of some sort.

All I have to go on here is your avatar name since you did not put anything in your profile.
I would try Fire Starter by Stephen King. It is a GREAT book and a relatively fast and easy read. It IS NOT horror and is about a little girl who can start fires with her mind (pyrokinesis) and a government plot to catch her and use her as a weapon.
It is one of his earlier books and in my opinion one of his best.
Oh – and it fits your avatar!! :-)
P.S. your essay could be about the use of government conspiracy in contemporary fiction, or about pyrokinesis…
