Okay, how you convert a fraction into a decimal is this. Fractions are actually like division problems that represent numbers... so three fourths is actually equivalent to 3 divided by 4. If you have a calculator, this is easy, simply punch in the numbers and divide. Make sure you're dividing the numerator by the denominator, and not the other way around. :) If you don't have a basic calculator, you can always write it out in long division. Zero is more a place holder than an actual number. For example, if you had 30, that would mean you had three tens and no ones, so the zero simply holds the ones place. So, since three goes into four ZERO times, you write a zero above the four to hold that place since you have no ones, and then put a decimal point after the number you're dividing INTO and your answer, the quotient, because you're past the ones place and into the tenths. You use the zeroes to simply extend out the place value from tenths, to hundredths, and so on. And since 3 is the same as 3.000000000... you can add as many zeroes as you need to solve the problem. So, continue to add zeroes to the number you are dividing by until when you subtract, you either get an answer of zero, or the problem starts to repeat itself. (For example, if you had 20-17 three times over and you continually get the same answer, you've wound up with a repeating decimal.) WOWW that was long... but I hope I helped. Tried to be as clear as I could. :)
