Your PC is infected with adware. Scan your PC with these 2 programs to remove it. Both are free.

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free.

It could be a virus, you should be able to tell depending on the type of websites that pop-up. If the aren't the sort that you would bookmar, then run a virus scan. A nice free virus program is available at http://free.grisoft.com/ .

If the web sites are the sort of place you'd visit and may have bookmarked, check the 'Home Page' you have set. In IE 7 you can set a couple to show up when you start ie. You can manage them in Tools -> Internet Options -> General (tab)

Also, once you get your computer all cleaned up, try using Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer or SBC Yahoo. For some reason, I seem to have far less problem with infestations since I started using Mozilla Firefox.

my computer once used to be swarmed with porn popups -- which was unfortunate, because my mother began to think that I was a total porn addict. (I'm not)
So i downloaded a bunch of anti-virus programs, and it worked
thank god.
