Do Start / All Programs / Accessories / Entertainment / Sound Recorder. This will let you record from the microphone plugged into the computer. What you record can be saved as a .wav file. Now you are in trouble because of the limits of your mp3 player, which probably doesn't do .wav.
Windows Media Player is also already on your computer, but while it plays wav, it won't convert them.
So you would have been better off to download Audacity and Export mp3 from there. That also lets you record from any source on your computer and edit the files.

Hook up a microphone to your computer. Go to Programs--Accessories--Entertainment--Sound Recorder. You can record your voice and save it to a file. I believe the file format will be a WAV file. Most MP3 players should be able to play this type of file.
