Yesterday I saw the interview with a woman who "thanked God for the attack on 9-11" because she is pleased to see "God punish a f a g g o t nation". Today I read the story of an Orthodox Jew arrested in Jerusalem, loaded with explosives attempting to blow up the marchers in a Gay Pride parade. I read questions daily filled with anti gay hate and venom, posted allegedly "in God's name".
So I ask you, who is this God you speak of. It is not the God of Christ, nor the God of the new testament. IT is not the God I was taught to pray to. I continue to hear repeatedly of the "sin of homosexuality", and the "sin of supporting homosexuals". I have encountered physical threats and minor acts of violence for "walking with people that pervert God's nature". Is this the God these people ask me to believe in? Have these very people not perverted the very meaning and spirit of the God in whose name they spew hatred and venom? If you believe in God, are we not all children of that God?

DebM - While I partlya gree with you the truth is we have to be concerned with those that use violence against peaceful assembly. We had a real problem with that in my city this month. One woman was badly beaten and others encountered more minor acts of intimidation.

Of course, we all are children of God or Gods. But these self-righteous individuals are simply sick. That's all I can come up with as an answer. You've got to be sick in order to say the things these people are saying! Voila! Sorry for the venting.

well thank you for letting me vent. I feel better now.

Many folks have been brought up with viewpoints that are different than reality. It is a shame the hatred that is generated from the fear of the very word homosexuality or from what folks have been taught by their churches or parents.

God give us the choices in our lives. Anyone who, like myself, has had the privlige to, through friends and realitives, be a very integral part of the gay community realizes that gay is not a choice but a reality and so far more than just "the act" that everyone freaks out about. I don't have room here to tell of all the things I have had said to me about the invalidity of a gay being a Christian, the works of a gay oriented church led by a gay minister, or those that have come to Christ, both gay and straight through these ministries. It's sad that folks through their background will come to the conclusion that they are the only ones that can determine and validate who God will accept as Christians and provide salvation to.

Don't let these things that are said (and look around it's not just against gays these days) get you down or turn you away from God. He knows and loves each one of us and we have the choice to have a one on one relationship with HIm that no one can take away. Check out the Cathedral of Hopes online site and other similar churches for some excellent resources.

So yes we are all the children of God. He loves each of us and when we come to Him He will take us by our right hand and never let go. Not always easy my friend but the end result is guaranteed.

God Bless

Years ago, on British television, there was a guy called Dave Allen. He was a stand-up comedian, always always having a dig at the Catholic Church in a way that even Catholics found humorous. He finished every show with the words "Goodnight, and may your God go with you."
I don't believe in a vengeful or hateful God because I choose not to believe that my God would do anything but love his/her people.
The sin of murder is something that man has decided upon, and uses the name of God to justify his evil, but I have a much more simplistic attitude.
Violence and death in the name of a religion is, and has to be, rejected.
I suggest you do as I do. If you pray to your God, believe in two things.
One, that those who say they are committing these evil acts, are doing so in the name of their God, lack faith in a merciful God, and so I give them no credence.
The second, is to ask your God to protect you from these people.

These are not people you need to be concerning yourself with. Gay haters/bashers do not represent the God you are speaking of.They can only be Representative of Satan.
The God you are speaking of loves each and everyone of his children, yes even the ones that hate you. I sure would not want to be them in the hereafter YIKES..
I'd rather lead a kind and compassionate life.

I had recently gotten in to something just like this with a guy I work with who is a very religious person.
He lectured me on how homosexuals could change if they want and they are just 'faking' it to anger god.

Long story short, I had to leave the room before I had a screaming fit.

Anyway, I'm glad some one's bringing this up.
All though it will only bring about many gay bashing folk with billigerent views...

Your venting is appreciated :]

It is the same type of perversion of "god" that has been going on for centuries. Same for people fighting for the color of their skin and fighting for equal rights as women. Now it is more focused on gays. The people who are spreading that hatred are listening to man's written "bible". Not what "god said or wanted. He created us all.

I'm going to tell you how the law against homsexuality in the Jewish bible came about. I'm Jewish, and I've studied this extensively.

Back when the Temple stood, there were actually Temple Prostitutes called "The Qedeshim". They weren't ALWAYS there, not from the beginning, but they did come there and set up house when certain kings who had married non-Jewish wives were in power. These marriages were done most often to consolidate political power and allies. Many of these women were from societies that allowed Temple prostitutes in their own places of worship.

In fact, the goddess Asherah had her "tree" in the Holy of Holies in the Jewish Temple for 236 out of the 370 years that the Solomonic Temple stood, for this reason, and this was worshipped right alongside Yahweh. It was occasionally taken out by different kings, and then put back in by others.

So, in the beginning there weren't any Temple Prostitutes in the Temple, but this changed, and they were called The Qedeshim AND they even had their own living quarters in the Temple, besides. They were eventually thrown out by King Asa, and then again by King Josiah, but they were there for a good long time.

Homosexuality at that time was a given. It was considered to be just another way in which human beings were created. These Temple Prostitutes were MALES, and what they did was offer their services to Jewish MALES, and their offer was taken up all the time, very frequently.

Jewish males who were homosexual at that time were NOT killed or vilified, and it was not against the law, either. They were still required to marry a woman and produce children because of the population growth needed for the small Jewish community, but they were certainly allowed to have their male lovers and even have for all intents and purposes, homes in which they lived as though they were married to their male lovers. This was common.

Apparently homosexual Jewish males were in about the same proportion to heterosexual Jewish males as today, which isn't much different than is found in the general population anywhere. They weren't the majority, but there were there, and it was accepted.

The problem with the Male Temple Prostitutes was that they offered their services AS A MEANS FOR FORGIVENESS OF SIN.

This DIRECTLY took power away from the Priests who were commanded to make the animal and grain offering sacrifices in order for sin to be forgiven. And of course, it was by these means that God had given the Jews for forgiveness of sins, NOT by Male Temple Prostitutes offering their services for same.

So, this became the sin of IDOLATRY. It was not being homosexual that was the sin, it was not even taking part in homosexual ACTS that was the sin, it was doing it for the forgiveness of SIN that was the problem - this was IDOLATRY.

And Idolatry cannot be tolerated. So, in with the law against any Jewish male laying with another as he would a woman. It is written in the Talmud that when this law was passed, the "men of Israel sobbed all that night."

So that is how the law against acts of homosexuality came to be in the Jewish Torah. This NEVER applied to non-Jews, and it furthermore NEVER applied to women, either. There is no punishment laid out anywhere for women who lay with other women, in fact it is barely even mentioned - and when it is, it is regarded as a type of immodesty, which was not a crime or a sin worthy of punishment. It was frowned on, but not considered a crime or a sin.

THEN, along came the Christians and their interpretations of the Jewish Torah (Old Testament to them). They didn't have a CLUE about Jewish law, or why it came about, or anything else about it, nor did they want to learn, they just wanted it to hang around so they can show that Jesus "fulfilled" the "old laws".

In the meantime, they picked and chose what they wanted to use against people in their own daily lives, and this is one of the big ones that they use for this. They have no clue that being homosexual wasn't a sin, wasn't a crime, and was accepted. They have no clue that it was IDOLATRY that caused that law to be included, NOT being homosexual itself. Nor do they care. Nor do they believe it when told.

Unfortunately so many, many Jews have become "Christianized" in their way of thinking about this law, they have picked up over the centuries the Christian way of thinking about it instead of the original Jewish meaning of it, and what we are left with is ignorance in the Jewish community, and ignorance in the Christian community both.

Now, many Rabbis know about this, the reason was Idolatry, using sex acts for forgiveness of sin with the male temple prostitutes, but many MORE Rabbis do NOT know about this. When a person becomes a rabbi, they must choose several separate areas to specialise in, and that is what they learn about. Many never even read the areas that cover this law.

Most regular Jews do not know this either, and just follow along the party lines now. It's the really vicious people, Jew and non-Jew alike, who are probably covering up their own homosexuality and repressive teachings about it they've learned since childhood, the hatred they have for it and themselves as a result, and other homosexuals as well.

Anyway, at least if we cannot change people's hatred, at least here is a bit of education about how the whole thing with the law against laying with men as you would a woman, came about. Hope it helps inform, anyway.
