A PC uses about 150-200 watts, so 9 hours would be 9 x 200 = 1800 = 1.8Kwh @ appx 12p per Kwh. so the cost would be about 22p per night.

Although your PSU might say it can handle several hundred Watts of power that doesn't mean it draws it all the time. You CPU will barely be ticking over, your hard drive ditto. If you want to save a little energy switch your monitor off (not just standby). It will run quite nicely and of course it will add slightly to your consumption it won't be enough to make a fuss over.
Try playing a high frame rate, processor intensive game for a few hours and see how much your meter has climbed by. The feel bad about wasted electricity. LOL.

If you do leave your computer running the entire night your electric bill will be higher but ti will not be anything amazing like an extra hundred dollars for only one night. I for one leave my computer running 24/7 and also have a media server connected to my entire house running 24/7 plus numerous other computers running and just for one night ti will not affect you that much maybe and extra couple dollars.
Hope this helps.

no your computer does'draw all that much electricity. i have 3 desktops and a laptop that run 24/7 and i have experimented by only running 1 24/7 the difference in the bill is negligible 1 running vs 4 running.

Not really as a one off - however if you intend to do this on a regular basis and are in the UK contact your energy provider about Economy 7 which would give you cheaper electricity for 7 hours between midnight and 8-30am.

For just one night? No it wouldn't cost a lot. A PC doesn't use a lot of electricity, Not much more than leaving the TV on standby.Would be a bit different if you did it every night though. I doubt that one night would come to 50p of electricity.

The electricity usage from it running all night downloading isn't that much different than a pc that is just left to idle all night.

If you leave your PC on 24/7 then you will see no difference. If you typically turn your PC off at night, then you may see a slight rise unless you do it all the time. A typical PC power supply draws a fixed amount of juice no matter what you do. So have fun.

PC doesnt really use as much watts as you would think. You will be fine to leave it on over night, in fact it would be fine to leave it on for 24 hours and you wouldn't notice a increase in your electricity bill.
BUT, remember to turn your monitor and speakers off, (you won't need them).

not really, obviously the longer you have any electrical appliance on teh more electricity it uses and the higher your bill, but the odd night or two you probably wouldn't even notice on your bill..
teh thing to remember is to actually shut your pc OFF when not downloading on it (or using it obviously) as thois will save you money in teh long run and i think we all need to do our bit to use less uneccessary power..
