as my engineering teach once said...you cant compare apples with oranges. dells and macs are completely different. if you are caught between these two, the real question is mac os or windows. it depends on what you look for in a computer. macs are good for general use, basic stuff like internet, chatting, school work. if you like to play games, program, web design, upgrade hardware, then windows is the way to go.macs arent as customizable as a pc(especially a dell). i dont really like mac too much especially since i like to game and do my own hardware work. but its really up to what you like.

I recently switched over to a MacBook with the Intel processor. It's a good machine, but be prepared for some differences. Some of the differences are good. I didn't know if I'd like the single button touch pad, but I LOVE it. The Apple uses a two fingered tap for scrolling, and as a left button click that is entirely easy and natural to adapt to. The Mac can also run Windows applications at the same time as OS X by using a program, Parallels. It makes the transition easier for those programs you have that run under windows and won't run on the Apple. Plus the Mac includes some great software right out of the box. Don't believe that stuff on the Mac commercials about not having to download updates. When I first fired my Mac up, it had to download nearly 100 MB of software updates.

I have a macbook and I absolutely love it.
Safari is great as is Mac OS x.
I've had it for almost a year now and have not had any problems whatsoever. Most of the programs I use already came installed and I have been capable of installing all the internet programs that I use as well.
I do recommend that you buy the 3 year extended warranty; my friend once spilled a coffee on her macbook and they replaced it in less than a week for her so it's worth it.

I do not know much about dells but I can 100% recommend a macbook.

If your looking for a dependable and exceptional laptop and a laptop that is windows based, drop the Dell (they are horrible) and buy a Toshiba. Toshiba's are extremely reliable, there support is fantastic, and the laptops are upgradable. Another great laptop is an Acer. Check out the links below and compare them to what you are looking for.

DO NOT BUY A MAC!!! They are terrible and have compatibility issues, plus if it breaks, you will be hard pressed to find replacement parts! Dells are much faster and more reliable, the only downside is that they change their computers more often so it will be outdated more quickly than the Mac. But go with the Dell, it's way better!

the question is simple for you to figure out. If you only use it for school and a few other things then you might want a Mac. Also they don't catch viruses easily.

The Dell will work for your school stuff, but if you are like me you like to download music and movies. You might catch something you don't like with a dell.

dell's have a 1 year warranty,

mac's actually last over 2 years.

Both have the tendency to explode but at least the Dell's don't overheat and scorch you when you're trying to use them. Mac's are well-known for having horrible heat management because they don't seem competent enough to apply the thermal grease to the processors properly.

macbooks are much more expensive than dells. Apple computers are usually better for graphics and multi-media stuff, while Windows computers are usually better equipped for buisness/ work. I think the dell is the better choice

That's a religious question, you will not get a rational answer.

The Mac is less prone to things like viruses, so that is an advantage for it.

The "Windows" (Dell) has many more software applications available, which is an advantage for it.

Both have advantages and disadvantages.
