Since you can build an acting career, while in college, I suggest you try college.

If you find that isn't the route for you, you can always drop out, but don't cheat yourself of the oppurtunity!

Good luck.

If you want to be a stage actor many theatre companies wont even audition you unless you have a degree in acting, so go to college. If you want to be a film actor and you aren't either drop-dead gorgeous or already booking jobs due to your enormous talent then don't bother. The system the acting industry employs has a way of weeding out the people who aren't worth looking at for roles and the first big red X on your resume wil be that you have no training. Acting is extraordinarily dificult and requires a vast amount of intelligence and if you don't have a degree everyone else who does (and there is a very very large number of people who do) will have an advantage over you. If you go to college you should go not because everyone tells you to but because it's the only smart thing to do!

College is good for you if you want an acting career I would suggest go to college first. The reason is that you need a degree in today's job market even if it is acting. If you really want to be an actor I suggest while you are in college major in acting, drama or theater. Study about it, learn it and master it. You will have enough time to master your craft in four years. You degree in acting will ensure everyone in the industry that you are no amateur. Keep in mind if you don't want to go to college and you still want to become an actor go to acting school. College is the best thing because the people there can help you find internships in different cities or regional theater. We live in a different time now and it's people don't have time for struggling actors.

There are so many colleges that have prestigous acting schools.

1. Northwestern University
2. Julliard School
3. University of the Arts
4. UCLA
5. New York University
6. Temple University
7 .Drew University
8. Arcadia University

First of all, NEVER do what everyone else wants you to, even if they all agree on what you should do. Always do what YOU want to do. Listen to advice, consider it, then make your own decision. Always.

As for college; the whole idea behind "going to college", is to have a backup in case your dream career never materializes. In my arrogant opinion, the advent of the Internet has turned the process of collecting and disseminating all the information you'll ever want into an easily accessible feat. The human endeavor of being self-taught is a lost art. Many famous autodidacts educated themselves, way before the Internet was around. College is for the uninspired.

go to a drama school or a art college, or even a film school, where you can try acting, producing, writing, directing, editing, camera, director of photography, and a sound person. There, you will definitely discover something you like and you are good at, since you seem to like arts. This way, you will have a college degree but also enough experience to know what you want and what you are good at. Go for it and good luck! I am sure you will do just fine.

College! The amazing thing about college is that you can go to college to study acting! And if you decide you don't like it, then you can always choose a different path. There are tons of great theatre programs out there, and colleges with theatre programs always offer plenty of opportunities to act/learn other areas of the theatre. We all want to follow our dreams, but sometimes they change over time. College is a great avenue for you to have the options you want.

You can do both. College gives you plenty of time to do other things. If you get famous or busy, you can always suspend college (or even quit), but then that would be a happy thing.

I've known few actors, and finding good paying gig is far and between. And here in NYC, there must be more than a thousand actors for any one acting job (even unpaid job). So don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Me and my budd created few indy films. And for every ad for unpaid acting job, we would get hundreds of headshots.

To increase your chances of becoming an actor, going to college and taking some acting courses would be best. You can start at the community college--our's has acting courses.

You would also probably want to take courses in public speaking, speech, even fiction writing.

A collage is really easy. Just cut out pictures and glue them together. If you want higher education, I'd suggest a college instead. If you want to act, you should go to acting school or major in drama in college.

Go to college and get some training. It's a lot harder to have an acting career without any training or references. Go to school and start building from there.
