I say they did, they changed everything about music. My friend says "ugh no! They couldn't sing, they couldn't play, they suck!" I say be that as it may, they changed the face of music.

You are correct, and your friend is a music moron. The Beatles not only were the most popular group of all time, they pretty much re-invented rock. They pioneered things that others have continued to copy for 35 years - harmonies, using stringed instruments in rock, creating sounds that no one else, save the Beach Boys, had ever done. They were creative geniuses and they re-invented themselves several times over. A truly remarkable, unique and unreal group of players (maybe excepting Ringo). Even now, their songs are still relevant and popular, winning them fans over the world. How many groups have done that? Maybe U2 is close, but no one else can match them.

I have nothing to add, it's already all been said. The only thing I can think of is to say that your friend isn't stupid or anything like that. They just lack perspective I would imagine. It is easy to take for granted, and I can see how the fact that they are so highly regarded and so almost deified that it can almost become a situation where the hype becomes too much.

The clearest way to answer it is to look to the artists, and who influenced them. If you look at the tree, look at artists polls, they were all affected by the Beatles. Revolver was voted by artists a few years back as the most influential record in music history. And just for the trip out factor, it isn't necessarily the question, but for perspective on how big they were, if you look at the beginning of their career, the street outside their hotel room in Australia with tens of thousands of people crowding just to get a peek. They weren't playing or even speaking, they just wanted to see them. People chasing them, screaming when they went into public. There is nothing, and never will be anything like it again. I always knew about Beatlemania, but until I saw the Anthology dvds I didn't realize just how crazy it was. Really trippy.

You friend isn't stupid, but I would definately say that she totally lacks perspective. I bet many/most of her favorite artists are either Beatles fans or were directly influenced by Beatles fans.

Tell you the truth, the Beatles were good. The style they brought was a style that nobody dared to try. The only thing was it was way ahead of its time. It wasn't until Led Zeppelin came along and changed the face of rock and roll. Their music is music that every listens to and tries to emulate. Many great rock band say that their greatest influence was Led Zeppelin. Bands such as Godsmack, and Metallica. The Beatles brought rock and roll to America but Led Zeppelin took it farther than anybody could ever do.

The Beatles changed music forever. The format that today is referred to as "classic rock" was started by The Beatles. And your friend needs to get over the fact that the music is older than they are. They wrote timeless songs, they played as good as any other group, and they could sing as well as any other group. There are two "Big Bangs" of rock or pop music. One is Elvis Presley the other is The Beatles.

True!!!!!! Absolutely true. Prior to the Beatles arrival music was bland. Groups with guitars were not around. It was boring!
But once the Beatles came people started rocking and suddenly there was beat and rhythm and bass and great harmony.
Before the Beatles there were really just solo, bland artists.
The Beatles performance on Ed Sullivan (USA) inspired great acts that followed including Crosby, Stills and Nash and The Monkees, and Billy Joel.
Without the Beatles we might still be listening to crooners croon. Imagine that!

First of all, how old is your friend? If she's in her teenage years and only listens to whatever is currently playing as far as new music is concerned, then she really doesn't know anything.

To answer your question, yes The Beatles did change how music was.

Take a look at some of the music before before then. (Try visiting youtube and looking up some of these singers and groups won't you) You had people like Bobby Rydell singing simple songs like "Volare", to The Coasters singing songs like "Yakety Yak" and "Poison Ivy", to "Little Anthony and The Imperials singing "Going Out Of My Head" and "Hurt so Bad", to The Dovells singing "Bristol Stomp", to other singers and groups.

If you take a look at these great people and their music, they mostley used their voices to showcase their talent, which they did it greatly.

Now you did have some people like Bill Haley and The Coments who started the rock and roll scene back in the 1950's with songs like "Rock Around The Clock", "Rip It Up", "Rock" and other great tunes. But if you listen you those songs by Bill Haley, that was kind of swing jazz mixed in with some rock and roll in there as well.

But if you listen to The Beatles and singers and bands that came after them, you noticed the changes from being nice simple softer melodies to more rock and roll, with bands like "The Who, "The Rolling Stones" etc. But that was also because of the pyschodelic era with new drugs and all.

But you still had people like The Four Tops and The Temptations singing softer melody songs while The Beatles were going strong.

Still either way you look at it, great music was from that era with a lot of wonderful people singing lovely songs. Unlike today's garbage.

Haha what kind of music does your friend like?‼?

They changed every genre of music. Music today wouldn't be the same if it weren't for bands like The Beatles.

the beatles were pioneers of music and new sounds.no one ever did music like they did. They made a gateway of music to come. They were original and only people have ever copied them.People still do.They gave inspiration to some of the greatest bands alive and without them the music world would not be as good as it is today.Think of all their songs, and now think as if they never existed.Pretty dull hey.
