I have an old computer that I need to get rid of. I'd much prefer to dontate it somewhere instead of just putting it in the trash...any ideas?

Well first off.. your not supposed to throw away anything electronic away in the trash. you can acutally get a pretty hefty fine for doing so in some states. ANY computer store will take a computer off your hands. If i had to give you one place. I'd say a local church. they always need computers for either there office or someone in there congregation needs one. Just make sure you ERASE the hard drive. "formating" the hard drive/disk doesnt really remove anything from the disk. use a program Called "DBAN" to erase your drive. you'll have to boot from a CD to do it :).

Goodwill, Local community center, Bored kid down the street. Church. There are tons of places that would accept an old computer, whether it is for their own use or for resale or even for scrapping and recycling.

Computers for Africa isn't too horrible, though personally I'd rather see someone in the country make use of it.

Mail it to me. I get used/older pc's all the time and fix them up for my own personal use. Kind of a geeky hobby of mine.

no take out all the good stuff and keep incase you brake something in your new one take out the ram sticks, hard drive,cpu cooler fan, processor. it will be worth it
