I would have to say Magellan because he did the early work and Columbus was using Magellan's charts when he made his voyage of discovery... it was why he knew the world was round and he would not sail off the edge... Magellan had already shown the world was round and had made the charts to prove it.
I have a copy of the chart Columbus used and, although many of the land forms were shaped differently than what those early charts showed, it was clear that a land mass was to the west of the Canary Islands... so Christopher was not navigating blind... whereas Magellan was going where no one had ever gone before.

Ofcourse, magellan. He was a path finder and Christpher Colombus was just following his route, that too using magellan's maps. In fact, Colombus was a pirate and would have been hanged if found in the hands of Dutch or Portuguise soldiers. It was the queen of Great Britain who helped him with money and ships. He found America. That too by an accident. He was searching for a route to India and instead, he found America.

Magellan. He worked it out on his own, as did Leif Erickson.
Columbus bought an old Viking long boat, and found maps to the "New World" Columbus used Norwegian maps, which is why on Columbus day I wear Norwegian attitude garments.
have a nice night.

they were both driven and vicious men, as such characteristics were necessary to accomplish what they did, I wouldn't hazard an opinion as to which was "better".
