What he was impeached for was purgery. That was the worst of his evils. That's still considered a crime punishable by death in some states! Everyone points out the affair and everyone has completely forgotten about the fact that he committed purgery. They say that what Nixon did in the Watergate scandal was worse than what Clinton did, but all Nixon did was spied and lied about it to the American people. Clinton committed adultery, lied about it to the American people then lied about it in court! How could anyone say the Watergate scandal was worse than the Monica Lewinsky scandal?

You bring up valid points. I am a Republican. However, your question goes to the affair. The answer is, in my mind, because it is a moral issue. You are the leader of the greatest country in the world and you cannot keep your pants zipped. Where is the control, the moral fiber?

Nixon, and/or those in the Executive branch for whom he is responsible, committed multiple crimes and then lied to Congress, the FBI, and the American people about it. They engaged in illegal wiretapping, created lists of people to be attacked because they had the temerity to oppose the Nixon administration, and created a secret, and illegal, campaign slush fund. As these things appeared to be in danger of being discovered, they then engaged in a coverup.

What Clinton did, by contrast, was to have an adulterous affair and lie to Congress about it. Adultery, while wrong, is not a crime, and the affair should have remained merely an issue between him, his family, and Monica Lewinsky. The only crime that Clinton committed was perjury, although that is considered serious and Clinton suffered the consequences as a result.

Although Nixon himself never committed perjury, since he was never under oath, he did lie repeatedly and was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the obstruction of the Watergate investigation through the lies to investigators and obstruction of justice carried out by his underlings.

But, if you prefer to believe that lying about an affair is worse than lying to investigators concerning criminal activity, illegal wiretapping, and obstruction of justice, than you go right ahead and believe it. Your position is irrational, so no amount of rational argument will suffice to dissuade you.

And by the way, there is no state in the US in which perjury is punishable by death.

"All Nixon did was spied and lied about covering up watergate to the American ppl" I have to laugh. You are compairing a man's private affairs to a man lying and spying on a nation??? If for one moment you think that Clinton was the only president to get caught with his pants down during presidency, you haven't studied history or society long enough.

He lied about geting oral sex, which was his business to begin with. He commited adultery, which is also not American business. You mean that we should hold the president to a higher moral standard than the American public.. lmao.. then who the heck would be president?? Surely not the current exdrunk/coke head we have there now.

It is part of a larger pattern. The Clinton's have been acting like outlaws for some time now. They should mention his disbarment a little more often to suit me.
People should expect more of a President than administrative competence. The vast majority of Americans are honest, hard working, and decent. No less should be expected of our well taken care of leaders.
Sleaziness was a major characteristic of Bill Clinton's Presidency --- a sad legacy Hillary continues to carry.

Comparing Nixon to Clinton is a lose/lose proposition.
I agree that Clinton's perjury was and is the worst thing he did (that we know of, of course.) All the actual Lewinsky/blue dress angle has going for it is its "sexy" in more ways than one.

He grew to become into impeached (which potential costs have been introduced against him), even though it takes a vote to get rid of an impeached president from place of work - which did no longer ensue. He grew to become into impeached for perjury for mendacity under oath. Edit: to make clean yet another answer I observed - the dwelling house of Representatives has the only ability to question, and the Senate has the only ability to objective the impeachment (removing from place of work) source: shape

Okay so I take it you are anti Clinton? I think Clinton was the "realest" president. We all make mistakes. What he did was his business whether he was in the public eye or not. Clinton was also very intelligent and a great speaker, which is far more than I can say about lil Bush. I hope to see Clinton back in the white house soon as the 1st man.

Americans are a little more naive than Europeans. French leaders have always had mistresses.
Personally, it's not the fact he had a little extramarital sex that bothers me. Afterall, JFK was doing Marilyn Monroe. I mean, who wouldn't do MM? But a little nobody porker aide? Come on Bill, show some class.

It reflected his contempt for the office (Clinton and Monica are doing there thing in his office while there are top secret papers piled on his desk).

When one gets that disrespectful in an office or position, watch out.

Uhhhhh?

Nixon used his office to affect the constitutionally mandated election process.

He was involved in several real crimes, that real people go to jail for .... larceny, etc.

Both were wrong, but come on now.
