Terry Pratchett, Diana Wynne Jones, David Eddings and the best of all Raymond E Fiest for fantasy.
Historical fiction - Jean Plaidy, Steven Saylor, Lindsay Davies. The last two write about Rome. Ellis Peters and somebody Pargeter write about the 14th century.

Ted Dekker's fantasy trilogy Black, Red and White. The Circle Trilogy. All three novels are excellent. Dekker's my favorite author.
