I was installing a ram stick in my computer and it did not work when i put my original back in it still did not work
original was a 256 sd
new was a 3gig ddr

Open case
Put RAM stick in
Close case

It is possible your motherboard doesn't support 3g sticks

I feeling that static electricity might harm the motherboard during installation process. Before install memory,Open the computer case also I would suggest look at motherboard and support (document)I would suggest to test Motherboard with new Memory stick.

Not a good sign...static electricity in your hands can cause RAM to short circuit. That is probolby what happened. Both your RAM sticks are most likely useless. Next time touch somthing medal before you touch the guts of your computer. Also, you could just not have it pushed in hard enouph, i did that once and it scared the crap out of me!

I have a feeling that the DDR ram wasn't compatible with your motherboard (since the motherboard was using SD ram) and you ended up shorting it all out.

Go to the link below and make sure you have memory that is compatible with your system.

To install it you put the stick in, properly oriented and push it down. It should click in place and the little plastic clips should seat in place. If that didn't happen, you either didn't orient it correctly or didn't push down hard enough.
