In my school, the standard of beauty is blonde, slutty, and so-called "perfect features" (aka, exact same eyes nose mouth whatever) basically you have to look like every other blonde in the school to be considered "beautiful." I know one 8-year-old girl I babysit for who had gorgeous red hair but dyed her hair blonde because her next door neighbor (a total skank who is a sophomore) died her hair blonde.
I know several drop-dead gorgeous brunettes (one of them is a professional model) who aren't considered pretty because they aren't blonde. What's up with that?

BTW, I'm not trying to offend anyone with their hair color - one of my best friends is a blonde, and I have absolutely nothing against them. I was just curious about what people thought of this.

If it makes you feel any better, it ain't anything new, sweetheart. It was EXACTLY the same in my high school and I graduated 25 years ago! I wanted to be pale and blonde so bad then. Let me clue you in on a little secret I noticed at my 10 year reunion and every 5 years since when the reuniouns come around....90% of those pale blondes look like hell now (wrinkled from tanning or hagged out from being slutty) and my olive skin is wrinkle free, my raven locks don't yet have a grey hair, my bod is tight and I have the longest (and IMHO the most happy) marriage in the group.

Be who you are babe and love it! Get through high school and the rest of the world will open right up to you.

I am a blonde, but not would you would consider a "standard beauty", which is fine, since I don't want to look just like everyone else--I like being unique. It's so ridiculous that an 8 year old little girl dyed her hair blonde just because she didn't like having red hair (side note: why would her parents let her do that at 8 years old?!). That's the ideal of beauty that the media presents to girls and women of all ages--and it shouldn't be that way. Everyone is beautiful in their own ways, and being unique is what makes the world go round. In fact, I think the blonde tanorexic look is washed out, so I'd prefer to see someone "exotic" looking. Just remember to be yourself and not care what anyone else thinks!

it is a double standard really. People are told be to unique, but when they are they are considered freaks. I am a proud brunette, and have been told many times i am beautiful. Blonds are considered to be more unique because it is rare to be born (and actually stay) a natural blond. It is considered exotic. Same with redheads. I would KILL be be a readhead. Just be yourself and you will get the attention you want. The attention the blonds are getting now isnt the right kind of attention you want now if you are being looked over.

Obviously, one's first reaction would be to blame the media. And I can't blame them. From Britney Spears, Christina Aguilerra, Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore, who first started the blonde pop-music craze to Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan (sometimes), blondes are just portrayed in the media as what every guy wants. For whatever reason, they also have the unfortunate stereotype of being stupid and "slutty" which of course draws attention from guys which is something most high school girls want. It's a cycle, sooner or later brunettes will be "back in style."

I am a true blonde & it has really played havoc on my professional carrer. When I worked as a Sales Exec & had to call on Purchasing Agents at large refinerys, it was difficult to give my presentation without hearing dozens of "Dirty Blonde"jokes. To make matters even worse, I "matured" up top early & remember walking with my books smashing them into my chest with my head down. People thought I was stuck up, but in reality I was so tremdously shy I was afraid to look people in the eye. My niece was born with 'Carrot Red" hair, now as a woman she is a knock out. Yes, she does model. BTW my hair is colored darker now on purpose. What we all fell to understand, high school is 4 yr of a normal 80yrs of life. When I go to High School reunions, the very ones who were unapproachable back then were "HOMELY" !!!
