Not in the same way humans do. They "hear" vibrations transmitted through the water. These vibrations tell them where other creatures are and there are a few species (the drum family) that have an organ that produces a pulse that humans can hear that the fish use to stun the small crustaceans that they eat.

Sure they do. You just can't see them.
First, you need some sound facts. All sounds are made from vibrations, so hearing is really a kind of feeling. You can feel these sound vibrations, or waves, when you touch the outside of a ringing bell. Your ears "feel" sound waves, too. Nerve endings in your ears send messages to your brain about the sounds they feel. Sound moves through water the same way it does through air, so a fish actually "hears" water movement.
The moving water flows through the skin at the back of the fish's head into its hidden ears (two hair-lined sacs that contain fluids) and moves the hairs in the lining. Scientists aren't sure, but they think tiny nerve endings attached to the hairs then send signals to the fish's brain.
Most fish can't easily hear really high-pitched or low-pitched sounds. To help hear very low sounds, some fish use a special fluid-filled tube, called a lateral line, as a kind of built-in hearing aid.
A line of tiny holes run along both sides of fish from their head to their back fin. Inside the holes are special nerve cells that sense movement, a lot like how the ear works. It doesn't look anything like an ear, but it helps fish "hear" or feel very low vibrations from moving objects -- like a bigger fish looking for lunch!
Scientifically yours,
Twig

They hear in a way that we don't think of like hearing. In humans, hearing is when the ear detects vibrations in the air, in fish, their lateral line, the line that is slightly lighter than the rest of the body that runs from the nose to the indent of the tail, picks up vibrations and impulses are sent to the fish's brain. So in fish, hearing is not really sound. They don't have ears.

That's a good question. Yes they do hear but not in the same way you and I hear. They have something call a laterial line going down the center of both sides of their bodies. The laterial line picks up sound waves that move through the water. If you have ever softly tapped on the glass of your tank, your fish might have moved away from the glass or come over to were you tapped on it.

yes, they can feel vibrations and this is their hearig machaism,if you get close to a bowl of fish or a tank, the vibrations you make cause the fish to follow your movements,i have two fantailed goldfish, and when i feed them i gently knock on my dresser where their bowls are and they see me with the jar of food and swim up to the top of the water waiting for me to drop their food into the water..dumb they aint.

Yes I believe they can hear.
They tend to stress if someone taps on the glass etc.
We have several different tank set ups with different species of cichlids. We have several different species in one of our 125gal and if you stand at one end and call them (fishy fishy fishy) they all come swimming up. We have a black belt cichlid and he will come only to his name. In order for a fish to come when called it would have to hear on some level

Fish are deaf. But they feel vibrations.
If you're fishing, sing away to your heart's content. But don't stomp around or you'll scare them.
Fish tank? Don't knock on the glass. You'll scare them to death.

No they sense vibration along their lateral line.
They have a sense oragn that is alien to us humans. Look up lateral sense oragn on google.
