The other day, I was cutting the lawn, when I heard a loud thump. Suddenly, the mower blade stopped running full speed. I tried pushing up the throttle, but it no longer went: "vroom". It now just sits there putt-putting along at a really slow speed. I don't know much about mowers--can someone help?

Sounds like you hit something hard, and squeezed your flywheel key.

Does the engine chug and vibrate or run smooth?

If you don't know what you are doing, I would recommend having it serviced by a professional. If you do plan to try to fix it, first make sure to remove the cap from the spark plug! If the spark plug cap is not removed, there is a chance that the blade can start spinning while you are working on it.

Try opening up the throttle by taking off the filter.

Could be a few things. None of which you can fix yourself. Take it to a qualified small engine shop.
